But this is too bulky in my opinion as I don't love wearing two jackets around town (different when I'm in the back country). \-I have a Fission SV which is super warm (almost too warm for most winter days here - I use it when temps dip below -15C). May be too hot of a jacket for most days.

I'm a big guy with a few extra pounds so I need a XXL especially for layering. I thought all in all it was a good choice but would like to try their XL as I feel the sleeves run long.

And no, it's not just a glorified poncho, the breathability and weight are key when you're on a long trip. My Alpha SV is comfortable in any weather ranging from summer rain and wind to a snow storm well below zero, and all activities ranging from a walk to cycling to mountain climbing above 15000 ft.

I decided to take the fat bike out for a ride (-10 f) and just wore a normal t-shirt and that jacket. I wanted to just take the bike down the road and bike but I ended up going on a ride since I was comfortable. On the inside of the jacket near the hood there is a wind guard that does a great job of keeping snow and cold air out

Ideal pants would be on the slimmer side, have a cinch at the bottom to keep snow out and maybe fleece lined or just heavier material to keep the heat in and the wind out.
