If you're a content creator with a MacBook or Mac Mini, then the best monitor for photo and video editing is the Apple Studio Display. Specifically designed for macOS devices, you need a Mac computer to take full advantage of the monitor's capabilities. It's very well-built, but the variants that come with stands have limited ergonomics, so they're harder to place in an ideal position.

The Studio Display has an exceptionally accurate sRGB mode that you can only access with a macOS device. Colors are extremely accurate and you won't need to calibrate the monitor, but the peak brightness in sRGB is low. It has full coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces used in SDR, and while the Adobe RGB coverage is also great, some reds and greens appear off. If you get it calibrated or use another picture mode other than sRGB, it has excellent peak brightness and the reflection handling is fantastic.

Sadly, it doesn't have any HDR support which is disappointing if you need HDR colors for your photo and video editing. It also has a slow response time that makes motion look blurry, even when scrolling through web pages. If that isn't a problem for you, it's one of the best monitors you can get for photo and video editing on macOS devices.

The Apple Studio Display is the best MacBook Pro monitor for content creators we've tested. In terms of its USB-C inputs, it has one that supports Thunderbolt 3 with 96 W of power delivery, which is enough to charge your MacBook while working. This port also serves as the video port, so you just need to connect your Mac directly to the monitor with that. It has three other USB-C ports, but those are only for charging other devices as you can't display an image from them. It means that its USB-C ports aren't as versatile as those on the Dell because it doesn't have a KVM switch, and you can only use one device at a time. It's disappointing because it's a more expensive monitor, but it's the premium you have to pay for getting an Apple device.

It's different from the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 because it has a 16:9 aspect ratio with a 5120x2880, which has double the pixels of the Samsung and nearly 6.5 million more pixels than a traditional 4k monitor. The text clarity is simply remarkable, and you can see more of your work area at once. As it's an Apple product, you can use it to complete your macOS ecosystem, and it has a few features you can only access with a MacBook or Mac Mini. One of those features is the sRGB mode, which results in exceptional color accuracy as you won't need to calibrate it.

It has other features most monitors don't have, like a built-in webcam and microphone, which are great for video calls. Speaking of that teardown, the team at iFixit found some interesting design choices inside the Studio Display when they dismantled theirs. One choice, apparently, was the recycling of the 12-megapixel front-facing camera from the iPhone 11 as the main webcam for the Studio Display.

[, Music ], all right so for the past three years, the cheapest, and only display that apple's made has been the five thousand dollar pro display, xdr, which would cost an extra thousand dollars on top just for the matte finish and another thousand dollars. Just for the stand, so when this new studio display got announced, you know it's a very apple design. It'S a 27 inch, 5k screen, surrounded by all these little apple bells and whistles and with the stand included for 1600 bucks, a lot of apple fans were understandably very happy. But then, after the dust of the announcement settled, a lot of us found ourselves asking wait

 So the version without adjustment is a little bit low and i think a lot of people started to notice that - and you know the imax didn't have height adjustment, but just for a monitor this expensive to have to spend 400 extra dollars to be able to do This seems kind of ridiculous, even though you can go to an apple store if you do get buyer's remorse and have them add it after the fact. But hey, if you do it's a really solid stand, all metal perfectly balanced and spring-loaded to hold the panel firmly in place. It'S actually more sturdy in my experience than the pro display xdrs, mostly because it doesn't have to rotate and just the overall build quality of this monitor is top of the line it is built so well and of course, this will never show up on the spec Sheet - and this isn't even something traditionally that matters all that much with a monitor something you don't touch, you know a phone, you want to be built, well things you hold and carry, but this is just going to sit on your desk, but they went over the Top with the build quality, the overall design, aesthetic, so in a world of basically, all plastic monitors, this one's full metal jacket, sharp corners, the precision drilled perforations at the top for ventilation. All of it, kinda is in a class of its own, and i love it

Choosing monitor

I have sent Apple countless screenshots in various lighting conditions and a full sysdiagnose of our Mac Studio and Studio Display review units, and at publish time, all Apple spokesperson Jennie Orphanopoulos could tell me was that Apple’s team had “looked into the images you shared, and discovered an issue where the system is not behaving as expected. We’ll be making improvements in a software update.” 

The Studio Display also only offers a 60Hz refresh rate, which is both bog-standard and also woefully behind Apple’s other top-tier products like the iPhone 13 Pro, iPad Pro, and MacBook Pro, all of which offer the ProMotion variable refresh rate system that can run as high as 120Hz for smooth scrolling and gaming and as low as 24Hz for movies. (The iPhone 13 Pro can even drop to as low as 10Hz to save battery life.) 60Hz is totally fine for most displays, but this thing costs $1,599. There are a lot of less expensive displays with variable refresh rate and HDR tech out there, and they’re supported by macOS out of the box

A 5K iMac’s panel, six speakers, three mics, and one terrible camera

 If i spin this towards the windows, you'll see that while it does have an anti-reflective layer or coating, it's not amazing, although actually it's much better than some old macs and imax, i'm not sort of staring at myself back all day as like a mirror. But this also doesn't have the optional nano texture coating, which i did have a play with on the more expensive apple pro display xdr and it's basically tiny micro etchings into the glass which helps scatter the light and therefore reducing reflections, giving it a more matte finish. If you are using this in a bright room or with windows directly behind it, then yes, i would definitely recommend paying the extra 250 to get that nano texture. But for most people, assuming you can control the lighting a little bit around you, then it's probably not worth it

 Now let's get back to the monitor now. I Started off by looking at the 4k monitor range because I've been putting out videos in the UHD resolution 300 400 by Tu-160 for about 18 months or so now. Now they are quite expensive, but also there isn't really much. Probably buying one because my back Book Pro which is mid 2014 range

I think my videos on a laptop and yes, it's a match, but that's irrelevant for this video. It could just as well be a laptop running Linux or Windows just imagine it's running whatever operating system makes you feel least agitated because this isn't a video about operating systems. No, it's a video about a monitor now. I Edit on a laptop because I value the portability and the fact I can easily pack it away and it means I can edit videos here or here what's going on and once I finished editing everything together I can bring the laptop in here, record the voiceover using this microphone, and then afterwards clear everything away

Going UltraWide with the LG 21:9 Monitor 29UM68

 Within days I had fallen in love with it. I'm using the DP connection to get 75Hz and an amd gpu to utilize freesync and once I started gaming it all made sense fairly quickly. This thing is dirt cheap and lightning fast, I'm not Chuck Norris on CS:Go I don't need an absurd refresh rate or response time on the bleeding edge of technology, I mostly do research for work, watch youtube and play Warframe. The settings for font clarity and refresh rates really only took 5 minutes to figure out and I was rolling

A plucky underdog monitor for the budget conscience

 Will officially never be going back and you can quote me on that. and I'll probably test out other regular monitors, but this is so much more immersive I Don't care if it's lower response time I don't care if it's lower refresh rate I Don't care if it's lower resolution, just the fact that it's such a wide monitor I Feel like when I'm playing a game whether that be warframe Borderlands GTA I am so much more immersed I Feel like I'm much more part of the game and you know it's It's an amazing thing and 21 by 9 I feel is really the way to go. There's a reason that these monitors are starting to get popular and so I would highly recommend that. If you're trying to decide between like a 1440p 16 by 9 or this guy here or even another 1080p 21 by 9, go with the 1080 21 by night, it's not gonna be as hard to drive so you'll save some money on your GPU and it's an ultra-wide and I again I will never be going back

 It actually has a response time setting on the monitor that does some trickery to basically make the monitor feel like it's responding quicker, but not have ghosting problems and stuff like that. I Usually that setting on medium and it works Excellent. I Do feel that this does respond faster than all the other IPS monitors I've had out there. Whatever LG is doing on the back end there, they're doing a really great job of that

 It's just LG and I think every review where everybody has been trying to tell you guys this, please just make the monitor out of matte materials. it's not it's it's not that hard. you will please everybody and Matt looks better in a lot of people's opinions too. So anyway, that's for the build quality for the design though

 I Actually do think it's a very pretty monitor with the basically bezel is design here. Now of course you've still got the black space up on the Matt glass here. or it's not glass tea. you know what? I mean the matte panel
