Let’s just give you the goods. Here’s the difference, taken from a still frame out of the QuickTime recorder. I happen to have a 2017 iMac for work, so it’s a direct comparison:

My first two big reservations are, unfortunately, the sorts of things that can’t be resolved with just two days of testing. One is the price: at $500, it’s a super expensive upgrade, and only your tolerance for glare can tell you if it’s worth the price. Another thing that might help you decide if it’s worth is whether the finish is durable. That’s my second reservation: I just don’t know

If you don’t spec out your iMac to high heaven like this one, likely the biggest performance difference you may notice is read and write speeds. That’s because Apple is finally providing SSDs as the standard option instead of Fusion Drives. If you need more storage and don’t want to pay for the SSD upgrade, you can swap over to Fusion Drives on some models for no extra charge. As somebody who uses a Fusion Drive every day, my advice is to get the SSD and avoid the weird pauses that a spinning hard disk sometimes causes

But there’s one spec bump that is wildly out of character for Apple, even in this pandemic year: the quality of the webcam has finally been improved. If you’re videoconferencing a lot, the new 1080p webcam is likely going to be the thing that improves your day-to-day the most. The entry-level HP Envy 32 is the same price as the entry-level 27-inch iMac, but it uses a combination of a 1TB hard drive and a 256GB SSD, similar to Apple&rsquo;s old Fusion Drive.&nbsp;

The second downside to the nano-texture display is its eye-popping $500 additional charge. That puts it out of reach of casual buyers, though it is worth mentioning that of the two Apple products that currently offer nano-texture, the iMac is the far cheaper option.  I planned ahead and ordered memory from Amazon so it was here when the iMac arrived. 8GB of memory is not expensive, but I ordered 64GB (2x32) to upgrade, which the entire process took probably 3 minutes.  Check “About this Mac-memory” to view memory status and run a search for activity monitor to view memory performance. Overall, I’m pleased with the new iMac (2020 model) and the 128gb memory.

This is the last model that will allow you to upgrade memory. I added 128 Gb memory (2) crucial 32gb memory sticks + (2) Timetec 32gb memory sticks. Placed the crucial sticks on slots 1&2; (2) Timetec sticks in slots 3 & 4. Closed the lid, installed the power cord and pressed the power button for 5 seconds; released and within 30-45 sec, mac booted up

Purchase before the 2021 models come out

 Also, I wanted to buy an Intel CPU iMac to use Bootcamp to install Windows and have both platforms on one machine. The installation works like a dream and no problems using programs in each operating system. I appreciate the extra power and how smooth it works. I did buy the core I7 CPU and it's fast!! I know some people want to wait for a design refresh but I actually like the looks of the design so that wasn't a deal breaker for me

 I returned that RAM and then bought Timetec Hynix RAM which worked the first try. The new iMac runs exceptionally well and doesn't glitch at all while using the recording studio software Logic Pro X and the plugins I use.  Thank you, YouTube. Mac users claim that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread but only if you use Mac from the get-go or have a tutor.

Not a PC

5k display not that great, my 2012 iMac screen is somehow better and can stare at it longer. Also only comes 8GB of RAM small SSD and weak video card.

Not worth the money.

 Then, upon discovering an update was available, I received a very disturbing message saying I could not update the app due to a "refund " or because it was already "purchased under a different apple id". Immediately I felt the brand new computer I ordered was, in fact, not brand new. I called apple and a rep shared my screen and helped get it squared away. Basically, if that happens to you, you need to delete the apps that need to be updated and reinstall them

A great balance of quality, performance and value.

It's hard to know how to rate this, as I had to return my 1st purchase with a defective graphics card. It took several blue screens of death random restart, and testing to figure out that it was the graphics card, after which I returned the computer. The 2nd computer that I purchased however is working perfectly, working perfectly, and is exactly what I hoped it would be.

The ones that work are great.

 It did come with a wireless keyboard and mouse, which connect via a single USB dongle. I did not use either of them so I cannot review those. Things I like: the power and speed. I can do multiple tasks at once

Great value, good specs

 If an extended warranty had been offered, this would be a solid 4 stars imo. If it held at the sale Price and you could get the extended warranty then I would give it 5 stars as getting a new mouse and keyboard would be worth it. It takes a minimum of 4 hours to get all the excess garbage off of it and have a solid firewall and anti-virus to supplement Defender. I found that right off you have little control of the system until you wrench it away

Screen is nice

 Given what I now know I would settle in purchasing something cheaper with way more connectivity options . This computer feels like a huge tablet. Its way overpriced, over stated, and also over rated.
