 A lot of people have been complaining about the hiss on this amp and I've been able to eliminate that as a factor by disabling the tweeter. Basically you just take off the front face panel, well the face cloth, and open up the tweeter and just sort of disconnect it and you know tie those wires together and twist ties and voila. It does change the sound a little bit and if you want to get some more treble and you have to push the treble a little bit more but actually it really doesn't make much of a difference but it takes away that annoying hiss that everybody's complaining about. So give it a try

Ampeg BA-115 Demo

 Also put in a Fralin 5% underwound P bass pickup. So it's a lot of pickup for a Squier but with any electric instrument this is to a degree what you're playing. So it's got good coupling to the body with a better bridge, there's nothing wrong with the body and the neck, it's got a really good quality P bass pickup now. This could have been a Duncan, this could have been a DiMarzio, etc

 I went with Fralin because I knew that this would be a good test point for almost any amp that this ever gets played through. So with the 500k audio, linear and 250k audio, everything full up on this Ampeg, I want to roll that down slightly to more of a standard P bassing, I can roll it down more, do some fake Motown stuff. This doesn't have flats, it doesn't have the foam so it's not going to do the full Motown thing. I'm going to palm mute to fake it a little bit or just get a kitchen sponge

 But that's down the line if I wanted to get into expensive additions like a kitchen sponge. The bass came with D'Addario 45-105 nickel strings, those are fine. I put on some DR lowrider 40-100, I like the tension of them and I knew that I had a lot of strength to rebuild and just going with a slightly lighter gauge gave me a leg up on that. As I redevelop my technique, as I redevelop my hand strength, I may go to a thicker gauge on these but I'm really happy with it

Pleasing P-Bass Progress and Testing the Ampeg BA-115

 I figure they were probably thinking that with the input for a CD (or iPod) for play along practice, you are going to want to have those high frequencies so it's not just mud. Plus, maybe you will want to plug in a keyboard or something. Unfortunately they have a hissy amp and the tweeter reveals that. But at the price you are not going to get everything, I suppose

 Compared to that, the Ampeg BA-115 is somewhat more muddy and less detailed. It does not make my bass sound quite as good as it is capable of sounding. I would consider miking up the Markbass for recording, whereas I would not do that with the Ampeg BA-115. Direct would be better

 Research also led me to understand the amp comes with a high level of hiss emanating from a piezo tweeter. But given how well the amp features matched what I was looking for, I figured at worse I could install a switch on the tweeter if the hiss was too obnoxious.  When I finally got the amp, I was happy to find that the hiss was not as bad as I was primed to expect as long as I set the Treble tone control at 12 o' clock or less. It was noticeable for sure, and not pleasant, but not obnoxious

 Above 12 o'clock it is obnoxious. I'm currently using the amp with the Style selector on 3 (flat response), Bass and Mids at 12 o'clock, and Treble dialed down a little. For me, it sounds about as good as that amp can sound at those settings, but my bass has really great tone to begin with.  One may ask why put a tweeter on a bass amp anyway? So many great bass amps never had one

Good at the price

 Before I knew it, it was 10 across the board and the thing had only just kicked in.  I have a cheap no name 10 watt amp that has no low to speak of. I've been cheating and running the bass through that and plugging the bookshelf stereo into the headphone jack of the 10 watt practice amp and that sounds pretty good.  When I decided to buy a "real" amp, I took the wattage of the desktop stereo, which is 75, and added a few for kicks, came up with 100, and found this thing

 It made some promising and frighting cracking and popping noises as I turned it on and plugged in the bass with the volume on 1, and as I turned up the volume to about 3, I could feel the bass kick in. It looks like it should shake the apartment, so I kept inching the volume up. Before I knew it, it was 10 across the board and the thing had only just kicked in.  I have a cheap no name 10 watt amp that has no low to speak of

 I'm not sure how to say this, but my Panasonic bookshelf stereo has deeper, richer, punchier bass. It'll rattle stuff I leave on its little 8 inch speakers, and unlike the Ampeg, I've never turned it anywhere near all of the way up. This Ampeg amp just seems to be struggling.  This is extra annoying because I was thinking it would be nice to have a beefier sound system, and the Ampeg has line in, so I could run a Discman style CD player and other things into the Ampeg and replace the stereo

 The amp got locked in the closet but the smell oozed out, so I put it back in the box and tried to air out the apartment. When I first took it out of the box, the two largest silica packets I've ever seen came out with it. They're about hackey sack sized. I tried again this morning and trying to play this thing, I have a screaming headache

Has an aux in, phones out, and effects loop. I can rattle every window in the house with it and have to dial it back jamming with a guitarist. It's a good all around amp and cab, I've had mine for 3 or 4 years and got it as a package from Sweetwater on Ebay for cheap.

What are some kick ass bass amps?

 Here is the XLR line output, which is very cool, you can use it as a direct box, instead of plugging the cable into the guy's direct box, you take the cable, which is cool, you will send a signal to the table super clean, right? And down here, these two connectors, here is the effect loop, which bass players usually use very little, right? Who uses this more is the guitarist, there is the return here and the send. Many will never use this here, because it is for you to connect an external effect in the head, you know? But it's a delay, for example, it only works with delay and reverb. The reverb you can put it in front of a normal pedal that will work just fine. So this one, who uses it most are the guitarists

 Suddenly you are in your house, in a place where you can not play loud, you activate it here, the volume is low, but it works with all integrity, with the equalizer, the volume and everything else, just decrease the power to 15 dB, this is very cool. Here is the peak light, when it is distorting, it lights up, suddenly you are playing very loud, the volume is very loud, it lights up here together with the limiter light that I explained before, you turn it down here, input. Here is his handle, very nice, it is very light, his design is super vintage, I remember an old radio, I think it's very cool, but here it is very new, this one here. Here is the Ampeg brand, I'll show you now

 The amplifier is all flat, the equalizer is all in the middle. I'm using this little button here, the pad, I turned it on so that the volume decreases in 15db, because I live in an apartment and I don't want the condominium to expel me. Let's go. One, two, three, four

 There are two speakers, 4 ohms each. They are Eminence speakers, very good. And the head weighs 9.9 pounds, which is about 4

I have an Ampeg Micro VR and a Fender rumble 200 cab. It's the perfect size for small and medium venues. The DI out of the Ampeg is the cleanest signal I've come across, and I can carry both in each hand.

I am looking to purchase a bass amplifier that I can use in small to medium sized venues. As I'm a beginner who is learning about bass amplifiers I hoped I could ask for advice on what I should buy?

I've always thought I should purchase the TC Electronic BQ500 along with some sort of 2 by 10 cabinet. The BQ500 seems to be good value for the price. It's advertised as a 500 watt amp but after further research it seems that it is not truly 500 watts RMS( from doing some reading it really has RMS of 353W@4 ohms and 175-200W@8 ohms).  But it seemed like good value and I was told it would be loud enough to withstand a drummer and another guitarist.

However I've recently come across the Fender Rumble 500 combo amp which seems to be well regarded and if I'm not mistaken does possess a wattage of 500 watt RMS. The Rumble would cost me 670 Euros whereas the BQ500 &amp; cabinet would cost approx 500 to 550 Euros.

I'm just wondering what advantage would there be for me to choose a bass head with a cabinet such as the BQ500 over a combo amp such as the Rumble 500? I've also discovered that there is a Rumble 500 bass head and I'm wondering why would someone choose the bass head version of the Rumble 500 over the combo version? What advantage does it actually have? I've tried looking up this stuff online but I can't seem to get a clear answer.

Any helpful information kindly provided would be much appreciated.

Question about what amp I should buy for playing small to medium venues

Super light and provides the great Ampeg tone that I can no longer live without. Great for bringing it to jam sessions or small gigs because of its portability. Puts out a great amount of power for such a little unit. Very easy to get a good tone in the mix with a band with this bass head

 15 years. But I picked up this Micro VR from Ampeg because I have a big, you know, SVT tube head, 8 by 10 and a 410. But I've got a couple of gigs next week. I got a bunch of guitar gigs, but I've got a couple of bass gigs as well in the next two weeks where it just doesn't make sense to bring the giant rig
