 I purchased this one and sent back the FireStick 4K as the refund on the Firestick 4K covered the cost of this one and then some.  Things that impressed me (with caveats):  1. Ability to use captive portal internet. Currently the tvOS on the AppleTV does not allow for this unless you go through a process to spoof the MAC address of a device on the captive portal or somehow get a hold of the internet provider's help desk to have them add the MAC address

 Especially helpful for use by kids.  6. Ability to set multiple profiles. I have two daughters and was able to add the kids profiles that they use on their Amazon Fire Kids tablets

Being an all Apple household I have to say this device impressed me quite a bit. I purchased a Firestick Lite over a year ago to take with me for travel but it had a bit of lag and seemed to have network drop outs on hotel WiFi (I know hotel WiFi is less than desired but it was annoying). In December this device was on sale for over half off and I decided to try it out. This was after I had gotten the previous Firestick 4K which was a decent product but I found out it for whatever reason cannot get the latest software (but the "less capable" Firestick Lite can, baffling I know)

Want my advice? This is the worst piece of crap I've seen that's got a Google and netflix certification on it. Don't buy it. The Amazon fire stick leaves this shit eating dust anytime, it's just way much faster and works fine, despite me thinking FireOS and the Amazon AppStore to be inferior.

Amazon bundles the latest version of its Alexa voice remote with the new streaming stick. Aside from the usual playback buttons, there are also dedicated TV controls for power and volume. As I mentioned earlier, the stick itself is impossible to tell apart from the standard Fire TV Stick 4K. Unfortunately, despite going “max,” Amazon apparently didn’t see fit to upgrade to USB-C for the (required) plug-in power; this device retains the Micro USB on its side. But getting up and running remains easy: plug the Fire TV Stick 4K Max into a free HDMI port on your TV, find an outlet for that USB power adapter, toss the included batteries into the remote, and you’re good to go. 

The improvements are minor but worth the extra cash

I love Dolby True HD but in the case of streaming , I am quite happy with Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby Atmos but I prefer to not have multi channel PCM unless I am obligated to and that’s what Apple TV does to Hulu or any non Atmos content . So that’s why I got 4k max!!!  3. Dolby Vision is supported and HDR is supported and in a much improved manner so the $55 upgrade was completely unexpected and absolutely needed!  It’s the upgrade you thought you really didn’t need until you saw considerable improvements and apps that are more frequently updated on the platform!

All the episodes of Jack Ryan were available on prime , on my smart tv’s prime app this didn’t happen, only season 2!?!  2. This design is associated with products for the elderly and disabled, but it also benefitted the able-bodied because those buttons could be found and used in the dark by anyone.   NO TETHER - NOR PLACE TO ATTACH ONE There's not even a tether. At least in the old days if you were going to design a tiny terrible product you would at least have an attachable wrist tether and hope it would compensate for something. I would attach it to a larger lanyard - preferably one that glows in the dark and/or has an internal LED.  THERE'S ONLY ONE Just throwing this out there: Old TVS used to come with a PAIR of remotes

 I do wish the live channels could be arranged by preference, maybe there is a way and I just haven't figured it out. Here is what I am not crazy about, the menu or landing page. The Home, Find, Live in my opinion should be at the top of the page horizontal or vertical. This would allow for more apps to show as opposed to 6 and should simply scroll with no need to drop to an apps area (3 little squares)

 First and a game console two or three times a year when family comes over, this shift also makes it more price competitive without affecting the user experience much since. Why would you use this when basically, any bluetooth controller that you already own is gon na work? Just fine with a shield, so with that in mind, the focus of our review is going to be around media streaming, starting with the remote. I cannot say that i've seen a remote quite like this one before it's a bit heavier than your average remote. But i will say the triangular feel does give it a surprisingly comfortable hand, feel the buttons feel pretty nice actually and thanks to the inclusion of an accelerometer, the remote can actually scent when you pick it up and turn on the adjustable back lighting neat the rest Of the design is really nothing special

 Honestly, aside from the gigantic netflix button on the bottom, which honestly i found kind of annoying, because it's so easy to accidentally press. The good news is that you can use the button remapper app to change what any of these buttons do. There'S also a buzzer inside the remote to make it easier to find in case you lose it. Every remote should have this feature once it's on the setup procedure is brain dead, easy pair, your android phone or iphone sign your life away a few times and get greeted by the android tv home screen with recommended content oozing from every one of its pores

 Moving data (there is very little as my unit is new) has been going on 20 minutes. I say it failed to move.  Update: 30 Dec 17. !

 Tried 3 different cables. No consistent way to get it to connect once it does not connect after wakup the Shield. 3. External Hard Drive plugged to USB continues to run even after Shield is put to sleep

 HDMI Erratic I find the HDMI connection from Shield to my new Sony receiver would sometimes connect, sometimes just black screen. Turn this off, turn then on, unplug replug cables, etc, etc and finally it works. Using latest cables all new from Amazon. All other HDMI to my receiver work, and always done so
