The Altra Lone Peak ALL-WTHR Mid is an excellent choice for those with a wider foot and those who prefer the agility of a trail running shoe with the support of a hiking boot. This boot is among some of the lightest we tested without sacrificing stability, traction, or superior comfort. The ankle cuff is padded without adding bulk, and the lacing system latches twice over the ankle for maximum stability. Comfortable, yes; however, if you are new to Altras, you may want to allow for some time to adjust to the 0mm drop, which places the heel and forefoot at the same height. This feature encourages better alignment that will benefit your entire body, but you have to work up to longer distances over time. 
The TrailClaw feature allows for a sure-footed and very responsive shoe, meaning you can push hard in difficult terrain. Our testers were shocked by the waterproof technology, which kept our feet dry and warm during our submersion tests. That said, the eVent fabric is rather thin and prone to durability issues when snagged on sharp rocks or downed trees. This is also a more expensive option when compared to other trail runners/hiking boot hybrid options. To be fair, every design has a few caveats, especially with the kind of extensive testing we do. Overall, we love this lightweight design for the confidence it inspires on the trail.

Wilderness Mindset

 No more corns! I love the comfort of these shoes. The feel resembles a barefoot shoe. The waterproofness was good until they delaminated after only about 3 months of daily wear (see photos). I filed a claim with Altra and was told this was normal wear and tear

I bought these hoping they would help the seed corns on my pinky toes. I am happy to say they did just that and my feet feel great in them. No more corns! I love the comfort of these shoes. The feel resembles a barefoot shoe

Amazing in every way but durability

 With these shoes, i remember walking under a stick and the stick kind of got caught on the top of the shoe here and just one step. I ripped across this hole the whole top of the shoe, and then these shoes didn't last much longer other than the material here that tears on this flexion point. The rest of the shoe held up really well, as you can see, eight or nine hundred miles of hiking on this tread still in pretty good shape, and i still felt like i had pretty good grip, um on uneven and loose and rocky surfaces, something that i've Had happen on my other lone peaks is that this rubber piece here comes unglued and it becomes kind of comes peeled off um. It seems, like they've, basically fixed that problem at this point uh

 Some things work really well right away in the short term, but eventually, once you start using them and breaking them down, the water is going to get in there and there's not much. You can do about it and something that i found out with these shoes. Since i do have an extra liner on the inside, that's supposed to keep the water out that makes the shoes warmer, which could be good or bad if you're hiking in cold conditions that helps, but especially with through hiking you're kind of in variable conditions. All the time sometimes you're in cold conditions, sometimes you're in hot conditions

 They say that they're, more water resistant, they kind of design these shoes for running and hiking in cold weather and wet conditions. And when i got these shoes, we had just finished up the desert in new mexico and we were heading into the san juans in colorado. Where there's still a lot of snow and we knew that we were going to be hiking in the snow a lot. So i thought, since i needed new shoes at the time i might as well try these all weathers and hopefully maybe they would actually help keep

Altra Lone Peak All-WTHR Shoes [thru-hiker review, weather resistant trail runners]

 I've also had issues with the "all-weather" aspect of these. I had to go back and verify that I received the waterproof version after my feet got wet going through some very shallow creek crossings (water didn't even go over the toe of the boot). I do love the zero drop heel, wide toe box, and the light weight, but the lack of durability and waterproofing is too much. I'll be going back to Merrell for my next hiking boot

Disappointed in durability and performance

 Normally an 8.5 in Altra. The 8.5 was too small and had to reorder for a 9 which also felt too small in length

Have always loved the lone peak however the new design has changed. More cushion and easier to take on and off however the sizing has drastically changed. Normally an 8.5 in Altra

The most disappointing feature of this boot is that they didn't put gaiter hooks/velcro on this model. I don't understand why, and I can't even use Altra's short stretchy gaiters over this boot. Great boots! Great fit! Being they are the all weather they may be a little warm hiking this summer, but I love how light weight they are. I had a hard time finding boots that fit, but these are great. Very comfortable. Recommend highly

That said, this boot's rigid midsole knocks some points off of its comfort score. It has a rockered sole, which will make it walk better than the average mountain boot, but it will not be as soft a ride as can be found in less stiff boots. You should check this out if you are into off-trail travel, carrying overnight packs, and scrambling up 3rd and 4th-class terrain.

 It feels very, very nice. There is some padding here in the shaft as well, overall, pretty good. However, i wish there was a little bit of that same padding here at the very front of the toe box from the inside, because this is nicely reinforced. I do love the protection, but if you are getting them in not the right size or if you're not wearing thick enough socks to kind of give you a little bit of cushioning, this will fatigue

 I kind of started talking about the temperature um. These are really not winter boots, so there is no point for me to talk about. You know them being in the cold temperatures i mean they are waterproof, so you can definitely use them in the snow, um, very, very good, waterproofing and very good outsole for stuff. Like that i mean, if you implement some insulated socks, you can probably get away with some colder temperatures, but i test them in hot temperatures, because they're not insulated, because they're not winter boots and in the hot temperatures they're very nice and breathable i mean gore-tex membrane - Does a very, very good job of providing that breathability so overall, again very nicely balanced overall, let's move on to the criteria number six sizing

 Um. The locking right here would be just beautiful if you guys could implement that a little bit better lacking would be fantastic, some ridges on the outsole to make it absolute, perfect and uh. I think i think that would be just uh. That'S it that's it that would just just do it do it for me overall um

 Keep that in mind. But overall i think scarpa did a great job whenever it comes to the overall weight of the boot. Now, let's talk about the other thing that kind of contributes to the comfort level. It'S the inner sole
