Getting it on, I could not see the straps AT ALL. If I did not have a traveling companion I am not sure I would have gotten it on. I would have required a mirror. Once on the hip straps did their job and kept the weight off my shoulders

I recently did an east coast trip where I brought a large carry-on and a backpack personal item that was pretty stuffed and I noticed that I only used maybe 30% of the clothes I brought for 9 days. I came across this sub and have been doing a lot of research on what backpack would serve me well and it's come down to the Aer Travel Pack 3 small and the Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L. It’s very comfortable to carry as well. I was between both of the bags as well and decided to go with the aer.

Overall, I was pretty happy with everything I packed. In the future I would like to pack to the size of my mini MLC but use my Osprey Farpoint 40 for the comfort. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy (and safe) travels!

I'd like something that's large (I'm 6'2") and can be carried with a shoulder strap while I'm carrying my hiking backpack on my back. So far, it looks like the Tom Bihn Technonaut and Aer Travel Pack 3 fit the bill.

pack was balanced and comfortable on my 5'11" body. There are features of a quality hiking backpack: a stable but lightweight frame, contoured shoulder harnesses featuring load lifter straps that prevent sagging away from your back, sternum strap and hip belt that perfectly transfers weight away from the shoulders. I had a comfortable, hands-free trek through an airport terminal, onto a monorail, up and down subway stairs and along a half mile of sidewalk to my hotel. I'll never drag along rolling carry-on luggage again

Last but not least is the main compartment. As we mentioned earlier, the compression straps no longer get in the way of the opening because it’s been moved forward. As a result, the sidewalls of the compartment are noticeably higher than the Travel Pack 2’s. In turn, this means packing is made easier because there’s more bucket space to fill up

The smaller top pocket is perfect for your TSA liquid bag or throwing in the contents of your pants pockets before sending it through the x-ray machine. I do TSA Precheck so I don't have to take out my liquids, but leaving from other countries, liquids do have to come out so this pocket is handy. When leaving the US, put my wallet, cellphone and watch in the pocket so they're not in plain sight to temps any sticky fingers. The current model has more of a low key logo of just the bird and Osprey wording, not what the picture Amazon shows
