 For a small sling, I’ve just bought the AER City Sling 2. Reasonable price from A UK stockist. It’s small, hugs the body and looks classy.

I have a bunch of backpacks, and a couple of briefcase-style bags/satchels, and a smaller messenger bag.  I'd like something to replace the old messenger bag, and I'm pretty set on a sling bag. 

I've read a pile of reviews, looking at things like the Fjallraven Greenland Pocket, the Bellroy City Pouch Plus, and the Are Day Sling Max.  

What I can't quite visualise is the size of these things; I really want something that can be small and compact, close to me for when I'm out on holiday just carrying wallet, phone etc, but maybe with space for expanding when I'm carrying more.  

Most I would generally carry would be AirPods Max and a Nintendo Switch in a small case; I could probably still use the messenger bag I have if I needed to carry a tablet or laptop.

Any recommendations?  I look at some and with photos of them with a phone in them, I worry that AirPods Max in their charging case wouldn't fit.

Sling Bag Recommendations

- Aer City Sling 2 (I liked the look, but it was a little bulky and the fidlock buckle was so sharp it kept scratching my neck whenever I’d take the sling off). I’m basically looking for something that’s compact and lightweight [that’ll store mostly flat so it can fit into my travel backpack with minimal bulk] that wont draw too much attention [i.e., no flashy colors] when I travel and walk around a new city

 The interior liner—and this applies to all the compartments—is a fairly bright grey for good visibility. Weather protection remains great for the most part, with twin reverse-coil YKK zippers keeping the elements at bay. 

Such is the case of the subject of this review: the City Sling 2. It’s grown in size, slimmed down its strap, got a shiny new Fidlock magnet, and is now more comfortable to wear. We think the improvements make this a better sling overall, and Aer’s even given it pouch-like capabilities. There’s actually a lot to go through, as we’ll be making some comparisons with the original City Sling

The City Sling 2 shares most of its DNA with the rest of Aer’s lineup, both in terms of aesthetic and material. We’ve flipped through this sling inside and out, and there’s no denying that Aer has kept their magic—this is one solid-feeling sling. The way they’ve put together 1680D CORDURA Ballistic Nylon and YKK zippers makes the whole sling feel very structured. Even when empty, it doesn’t collapse like a wet paper bag

Our biggest takeaway from the City Sling 2 is how well Aer addressed all of the cons of the original City Sling. It wears comfortably, the zippers aren’t jingly, and the elastic strap keepers are a welcome addition. Noteworthy changes like these are what we like to see. We like the original City Sling, and the City Sling 2 just makes us like it even more

Throw the Daylite Sling over your shoulder and go. Go where, you say? Anywhere. To the store, school or on a quick hike. While grabbing brioche buns from the bakery, or veggies from the farmer's market. Maybe storing your valuables at the festival or on holiday at the beach? Wherever you go, it's always nice to have a way to simply and securely carry a few daily essentials. The Daylite Sling uses a breathable and soft NeoSpacer mesh material on it's single, anatomically shaped shoulder strap for next-to-skin comfort, even on hot days. The front zippered mesh pocket is great for storing smaller items you regularly need access to, the main compartment has sleeves for organization plus a key-clip, and you don't have to remove the pack to grab your gear; just rotate the pack over your shoulder.

 However I would have like it to extend the padding a little more down the strap. If you wear it on the side or on your front you are out of padding but that would have added to the bulkiness. THe main thing I dont like is that I would have liked ONE LOOP on the outside to attach a lock clip, a strap, a locking carabiener or a string or lanyard or some kind of attachment if I desired. This is my biggest gripe

 That's why I was really looking forward to using the Osprey Daylite Shoulder Sling as a grab and go pack for long walks and short hikes. Unfortunately, the pack fell well short of my expectations and I had to return it. Why?  For one, this pack is much smaller than I expected, based on the photos. Granted the dimensions are given in the product description, but that didn't prepare me for how truly small this pack is

  The other thing I noticed was the strap. It transitions from a wide, foam-backed strap to a narrow canvas strap at the halfway point. I'm not sure why Osprey designed it this way, but it definitely didn't fit me well. And it's not because it is a "sling" pack

Extremely SMALL sling pack with an odd strap design

 Lightweight but strong. Comfortable for husky-framed men.  Dislike: The strap attachments suck: one is under the strap pocket; the other is a crappy plastic carabiner that I cut off and replaced with a buckle (required sewing). I would rather it was designed to wear only on one side, as the ambidextrous design means that the strap is stressed and not as comfortable as it should be

 I bought it to match my Osprey backpack, and I was going to use this for traveling abroad/airplane carryon. It's built just to hold a few things. And for what you get, it's way overpriced. Luckily, Amazon has a generous return policy
