Best Wireless Mouse - GearLab

  In the end, I found the Logitech M570 unusable for my case. To be able to manage scrolling around with different monitors required me to jack up the speed settings but as a consequence I would loose precision of movement when needed. If I took the opposite approach and lowered the speed setting, I would be too frustrated by the experience of moving the cursor around.  PROS -Nice and compact form factor -Familiar form factor to those coming over from a mouse -While thumb control for trackball may seem odd, it is surprisingly easy to get the hang of -Software easy to install and "looks professional"  CONS -Cheap build quality -Trackball is slow with default settings -Trackball, when pointer speed is adjusted upwards, has poor precision when trying to do precise things  NOTE: I realize some people will indicate that I should not be able to manipulate pixels with a trackball

 If it was weighted, it would give it a bit better of a feel  CONS -Not a visually pleasing form factor -Ball movement feels rough and is noisy -Have noticed some cracking at times which does make me wonder about longer term viability -Seeing LED setting for resolution is hidden. It would be helpful if you actually could see the status more easily

 It dawned on me that if I got a trackball and could adjust to it, I could simpilify my desk even more.  Having made this decision, I did some research and decided on trying the Clearly Superior CST2545(L-Trac), the Kensington SlimBlade, and the Logitech M57.  I've listed all the reviews for the items in this review so it is easier to compare for those that are in the market.  In the end, the CST2545 won out

I would suggest using trackball mouse if you have limited right hand space. logitech M570 is really comfortable for example. But the major issue seems to be that keyboard and how it is too wide, you probably should look for narrower keyboard. Maybe you could find tenkeyless ergo board and use separate numpad on the left?

As someone who uses the computer for work several hours a day, I recently decided to upgrade my peripherals. I sometimes suffer from shoulder, neck, and wrist pain, so I looked for ergonomic solutions. However, now I am noticing that because this keyboard is fairly wide (bc of the inclusion of a numpad), I have to place my mouse arm very unnaturally out to the right, which is anything but ergonomic.

My new mouse is the logitech MX3, which I have tried out in a shop and seemed really comfortable. It hasn't arrived in my mail yet, but now I am starting to question whether my setup will end up being less ergonomic than what I had hoped, due to the problem I described above.

As a solution ***I am considering these different options:***

1. Just deal with it bro
2. Return my current keyboard, get an ergonomic keyboard without a numpad (only option I know which doesn't have any outlandish layouts or design is Microsoft sculpt)
3. Return my current keyboard, buy myself a new ergonomic keyboard that has a trackball or trackpad somewhere in the middle (don't know any good options, though)
4. Buy myself a trackpad to put in front of the keyboard, so I don't need to use my mouse as often
5. Keep my current keyboard, return the MX3, and buy ***a comfortable, ambidextrous mouse*** instead, which I can use with my left hand (or my right hand)
6. Keep my current keyboard, also keep the MX3, buy ***an ergonomic, left-handed mouse*** additionally, so I alternate between left and right

I would really really appreciate if some of you could give your opinion on my "dilemma" and perhaps recommend me any symmetrical (or left-handed) mice that I can use to avoid wrist pain. ***Thank you!***

Need advice on comfortable, ambidextrous mice!

 I bought a Logitech wireless keyboard and the mouse and keyboard wont work on the same USB plug. the mouse needs to be flatter. if you don't have a good grip on it you hand will slide off of it. I have a Microsoft wired ball mouse that I don't have this problem with

 I really liked this design and would hate to go back to using a mouse pad type of mouse, which really wouldn't work well for me. I like to recline in my comfortable chair with the keyboard on my lap and mouse on my leg. I have my monitor attached to a multi-jointed swing arm that's attached to a small roll about stand that holds my computer. I can sit in my chair and swing the monitor to in front of me

  Will I be buying this model again? Maybe. For me it's the most comfortable and easy to use mouse that I have ever used. It's just such a shame Logitech uses such flimsy switches. I have several devices that I use track ball type of mouse and if these lasted longer I would have bought one of these for each device

  There are other brands of track balls that are more reliable but have a different design and not use a thumb trackball. I have one of those since October 2013 and it's still working like new but with the Kensington ball using the palm for the ball movement I don't find it as comfortable.  And there are lot more thumb style track balls on the market now so Logitech now has competition, check those options as well before deciding. I think I'll try out something from their competition and see if better

  Bottom line, however, is that I NEED this shape in a trackball, and nothing else out there comes close to being what I need. I buy several at a time, fearing that these, too, will be discontinued one day and leave me having to learn how to use a different kind of pointing device that won't be as functional for me even after I get used to it. If you like this design, this trackball is the best option out there, imo, and just do your best not to drop it (unless you need exercise: getting up a lot to track down the ball is not what I think they meant when naming it a "trackball," but is a common need for me!).

 But most have been discontinued, including the 5-button model, unfortunately.  (By "this general design," I mean that your thumb controls ball & all buttons controlled by fingers to the right of that, although an older model of Logitech's or Microsoft's also had button placement down below the ball/thumb area).  So, you have very little choice if you want this design. This Logitech is really the ONLY option I've found that's being manufactured today, and I'm immensely grateful that this is still available (although the trends indicate that this may not be around much longer, regardless of manufacturer)

  I definitely get at least a year of use out of each battery (and I never bothered turning it off between uses). Because it wasn't as good as what I used in film school, I didn't use it for editing, but instead for my day job. The entire time I've owned this mouse, I've also worked a 9-to-5 job doing software automation for IBM, and this is the mouse I've used for 8 hours a day over the last 7 years. So it was used heavily, and I still get a good year of battery life out of it

Overall I'm glad I bought this trackball mouse. The features make it convenient for web developers like me, or others who have to toggle back and forth between software windows, etc.  PROS Very convenient button functionality. Has forward and backward buttons, as well as standard left/right buttons

 Sometimes I prop up the back of the mouse (near wrist), and that seems to help elevate my wrist's position. Still, it's a pretty good design, as it forces your hand to be naturally curved and allows your fingers to rest on top of the mouse - w/ the exception of the thumb as described above.  Sometimes I grew frustrated w/ the trackball, because if I want pixel by pixel movement, it's hard. But that was an issue of the settings

  The ability to program the 3 "extra" mouse buttons (3 includes the clickable wheel) is appreciated, and makes the trackball much more versatile, depending on your needs. I've got the buttons set to "Backspace," "Home," and "F5" (reload), which allows me to browse almost entirely without need to use the keyboard. Additionally, setting a function for clicking the scroll wheel does not limit or remove its scrolling function, which was a relief, and another great design choice.  Overall, unless one was to spend considerably more for a specialized trackball of professional quality, the M570 is possibly the best among what's currently available

 Further (and this may simply be a lack of coordination on my part), I find the ball manipulation by thumb to be unreliable at best, extremely frustrating at worst.  The very old but never matched TrackMan Marble FX had the ball in the center, which allowed for much more precision in using the index finger, and there was an opening by the thumb, which gave the user complete precision when needed, as the ball could be grasped between thumb and fingers. This thumb design (which appears pretty common) causes me to constantly be moving what I've highlighted, rather than right clicking it, since my thumb appears to be fairly spastic, and there's no way to "anchor" a position without movement, so attempting to place a cursor in a particular location becomes fairly hit or miss for me.  Of course this M570 Trackball is light-years ahead of the trackpad on my laptop, but knowing how much better it could be makes for a disappointing experience

 The on/off switch is very nice to have, not so much for the battery saving, but so that you don't accidentally wreak havoc when you've set the mouse aside, but it's still within reach to move and click. Also, if one needs to take the trackball along, safely locked inside the battery compartment is a slot for the USB mini-connector, which makes it much more secure than other brands that store the connector in an open compartment on the bottom of the device -- I find this to be an exceptionally good design point.
