Best for retaining heat, but latch breaks easily

 I was surprised that it filled it right to the recommended fill level. Pleased with that, I started to look the bottle over. Same classy look and quality of build as the 16oz model. The lid latch works well and a nice positive lid pop up as it's depressed

  I've had this 12oz model a few days now and when I first opened the box I was blown away by how small it was. Almost half the height of my 16oz bottles and very compact. My 1st reaction was that there was no way this little thing will hold 12oz of coffee. I was actually a little ticked off that I had been mislead about the quantity, so I immediately got out a measuring cup, filled it to 12oz and poured it in the bottle

 I'd rather do that then guess if I am drinking from a lid with mildew growing inside. 3. Not this last issue was something I didn't expect. Once the top lid pops open and you place the drinking piece to your lips, the top of the button which you press to open the lid, pushes into the bottom of my lower lip

 Then again, I do prefer having a lid because it keeps my actual drinking piece clean.  For those reasons above where I didn't like the Zojirushi as much, I rated this product 4 starts. I would still choose this over a Contigo thermos because it keeps my beverage hot (or cold) and easy to clean. Those were my non-negotiable if I am going to pay close to $30 for a thermos

Pros and cons about the Zojirushi

 Nice features I like: its sleekness, pretty color, the lid comes off easily, and the spout piece also is detachable. The size is nice for people with relatively small hands. The lid is easy to take off and put back on for people like me, who have weak wrists.  I poured hot coffee in it

 It is a very small amount, not nearly as bad as some of the other tumblers I have, but I could tell it is there.  Four stars for now as this is just day one that I own this mug. I hope it maintains its great insulation over time, including with iced drinks. I also hope that the plastic taste does not get worse

  While the lid is very well made and designed, this travel thermos has a few things lacking for my needs. I liked the smoky blue color I selected, but the finish is a shiny enamel of some kind that doesn't seem to be very scratch resistant. I've read a number of reviews that mentioned wear developing on it. The steel isn't extremely hard

 The lid flips open with the push of a button and makes for easy sipping. This action minimizes the air exposure (ie heat loss) when you take a sip as opposed to the kind where you have to actually remove the whole lid to get at your drink. The Zojirushi lid, however, is much better-designed than the Thermos mugs.The sip hole is better shaped and sized for a smoother pour and smoother sip

 It also feels more durable, opens more smoothly, and easily comes apart for easy cleaning, including all the rubber pieces (very nice). Much better than the Thermos offerings. The lid has a locking mechanism in the way of slick switch that slides side to side, locking the lid so that it doesn't flip open accidentally. The Thermos mugs only have a metal clip that swings over to latch the lid in place (and which can easily come loose and be not so easy to disengage when you are in a rush
