Wide open, like a coffee mug, easy to wash the interior.

  I am disappointed by how strongly the lid components retain food odors. Even if I take the whole lid apart and soak the parts in vinegar and dish soap, they still smell like the soup I had in the thermos.  I can still recommend the thermos for its functionality, I just wish the lid materials didn’t absorb odor.  I’m a little concerned about the longevity of the lid gasket since I remove it for cleaning each time, but too soon to evaluate
