Those O's Arushi Fresh Brew is definitely a decent coffee machine I Just wish it wasn't as expensive.  While correct brewing temperature is essential, so too is brew time. Steeping grounds too long in hot water will lead to liquid that's over-extracted and undrinkable, at least to me.  Sadly, Zojirushi's device suffers from this weakness. Coffee I made with it was consistently bitter and unpalatable, and refractometer readings confirmed this

 Based on the company's history of building quality rice cookers, plus its experience in constructing advanced vacuum-sealed thermal kettles and water heaters, I was expecting an exceptional coffee machine. Unfortunately,  this was not to be.  While the Fresh Brew does have the ability to heat water to the optimal temperature for coffeemaking, it takes too long to get there. Add to this a lengthy brewing time, and the result is coffee that's bitter to the point of being undrinkable

High-rollers of course can choose the $250  KitchenAid Siphon Brewer  that makes a distinctively delicious cup, or the $299  Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 741  which brews just as well and keeps its coffee hot all morning

 Coffee from target ($30) because a week without coffee would be hell.  Aside from those issues, i like the detachable reservoir and this coffee maker made a better tasting cup of coffee than the kitchen aid we tried for about the same price.  Pros - removable resorvoir Great taste Ice coffee attachment (haven't used) Bold option Adjustable hot plate temperature Can turn hot plate back on Beeps whenever it is done brewing or turning off, so you always know  Cons - LARGE footprint. Was bigger and less nice looking than kitchen aid and comically larger than the basic 13 cup mr

 But apparently those aren't worth paying extra for.  Our old black and decker lasted 6 years but jumped up in price by 30 dollars since then. Stick to mr. Coffee/simple ones and at least you only have to pay 25% of what you'd pay for the nicer ones

 So why kill the entire flavor of the good support with the "one-time courtesy" crapola. This phrase is a favorite of many companies, and make a customer feel they've been done a huge favor for buying the product. Don't do that!

  But where the coffee was good with the YTC model, it is really mediocre with this XB model. It is so much weaker and cooler that I would suspect we got a lemon if I didn't read the other reviews here.  The Moccamaster is much less pleasant to use, but the coffee is better than anything I've had from a Zojirushi, which makes me wonder how difficult it can be to duplicate Moccamaster's brew quality while maintaining Zojirushi's ease of use.

Coffee Too Weak and Too Cold

 I let the carafe sit until it cooled off and I detected no floating crystals. The following day he coffee was not steaming hot. It was hot just not steaming hot which is what I like. It's suppose to be 200 degree's as it claims

 The next two mornings the coffee was still not steaming hot so I returned the unit.  This coffee maker is too expensive to not work as claimed. All I want is very hot coffee and I wouldn't mind the price if it actually delivered what it claimed.
