 Yeah, a yachtie. but they don't deliver monster birds so that was a big letdown. I opened a PayPal case PayPal denied me they denied my case I just wanted a reimbursement for the amount for the matza birds which would be about for a consumer. It cost about 200 bucks and I want that 200 bucks back so I can get the monster person there

 First impression here is that it is a gorgeous thing. I think credit Craig Lent did a great job here. From a mechanical design standpoint, it's a gorgeous grinder. It's efficient, it's functional, and it's beautiful

 If you're not gonna get a perfect grind, you're not gonna get a perfect coffee. In fact, you're not gonna get anywhere near a good coffee. I Could not I could not get a good pull from the espresso machine when that was off-center Number four I Opened the transmission unit here to disassemble and I noticed pretty ugly in there. It was not assembled correctly

I'm planning on moving in a few months and I've thought about setting up a coffee bar in my new home, including getting an espresso machine. I've never had an espresso machine at home before, so this will be my first experience with espresso at home. I have a bit of extra money, but I don't want to go crazy with the budget either. I'm looking for advice in choosing a manual espresso machine (specifically the flair 58) vs. a semiautomatic machine like the Gaggia classic pro.

I've watched a lot of coffee youtube and reviews of espresso machines and honestly I'm leaning towards the flair. I don't really have any interest in steaming milk. I don't drink any milk based drinks. Either I just have a double shot, or sometimes I have an Americano. I like that it seems fairly easy to control some of the variables like pressure and temperature right out of the box. But my attraction to the flair 58 specifically, as opposed to other manual machines, is that it has a 58 mm porta filter and the electronic preheating.  Preheating the other flairs with boiling water seems kind of annoying. And I do realize the cafelat robot also doesn't really require preheating and is slightly cheaper.  But if I bought the model that comes with the pressure gage already installed,  plus shipping from Hong Kong and taxes, I think it probably winds up being about the same price as the flair and it doesn't have a standard 58mm porta filter. 

And while machines like the Gaggia also just turn on and heat up, it seems like you need to mod them to actually get the best coffee you can out of them. This doesn't appeal to me at all. I don't want to have to go digging around in a machine's internals. Even if the mods are easy to do...honestly if they're that simple and only cost a few dollars, it begs the question for me why the companies don't install them themselves.  Is it really that hard for Gaggia to install the spring that keeps the machine going above 9 bars? Is there something I'm missing?

It seems to me that with something like the flair,  if I get bad coffee it's something I did wrong (and something I can potentially fix on the next shot) rather than a limitation of the machine,  which I think I would find maddening.

So I wanted to get other people's opinions.  Is my logic sound,  that out of the box the flair can potentially make better espresso? Is there some huge downside to a manual machine that I'm missing?

So I’ve seen this kind of question posted every so often but wanted to refresh it based on the current grinder market. 

I’ve had my Vario since 2015. It makes fine espresso, but I know it can get better and I want to explore it. My machine is a 2012 model Expobar Office Lever with a brand new pump and OPV that I just installed a few weeks ago. 

The Niche seems like a crowd favorite, but is it really that much of an upgrade over the Vario?

The Lagom P64 is within my budget (albeit at the very top end) but if I’m more about the full body, syrupy mouthfeel and chocolate tones, will I regret going with a flat burr grinder (as my Vario also is)?

Hyper alignment is an option too but I don’t know if I feel like fidgeting with it for that long… though I could be convinced that it’s worth the effort if it’s going to produce the best results for me.

Upgrading from a Baratza Vario

Curious-how many shots do you pull each day for yourself and how pricy was your setup?

For me, I got a moka pot for $10 and was intrigued by the coffee I could make with it (I knew it was far from true espresso, but it made delicious milk drinks). I then discovered this sub and James Hoffman, and here I am a few months later with a full home setup, and a df64 coming next Wednesday.
