Tape sim plugins like FabFilter Saturn 2 or waves j37 do the trick for me

Try using just a mono OH and kick mic

Playing quietly helps as well!

Vocal Rider, RBass, H-delay, and J37. However, one I haven’t seen in here yet is Waves Tune, and I honestly feel it does a better job than Melodyne in a lot of situations.

Airwindows tape stuff does sound okay but ultimately hasn’t really stuck with me the way other plugins have. Usually if I’m looking for a bit of a low-mid bump (especially on drums or guitar bus), I’ll throw Slate VTM on, and if I want to wake up the upper mids I’ll try Waves J37. Both plugins affect other frequency ranges too depending on your settings, but I tend to find them pretty agreeable sounding overall.

my top 3 favourites are J37 (nice tape saturator), Waves Tune Real-Tune (allows you to monitor with the plug in on if you don’t have a super powerful Mac), and the Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain (really good mix finalizing suite, takes some getting used to though).

I agree with others about learning the Logic stock plugins - however there are some gaps in Logic’s plugins that you can fill in with Waves. #1 a good maximizer - if you want your songs loud with something easy to use get L2 Ultramaximizer. Not the best limiter plug-in on the market but it’s cheap and sounds pretty good. #2 a tape emulation - get J37.
