I have a bit of cash, and want to upgrade my audio setup.

Currently have an AT-120LP turntable with stock cartridge. Play it through Denon AVR-X4400H receiver (which does have a phono input).

I'm working in Canadian dollars, with about $1000 to $1200 to spend. Looking at a few options:

1. Fluance RT85 ($625 CDN) plus Cambridge Audio Alva Duo preamp ($469), then played through a normal line in on the receiver.

2. Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo ($800) plus Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 preamp ($259) and normal line in on receiver.

3. Pro-Ject Debut Pro ($1099), run through the Denon phono input. 

Thoughts/advice/suggestions???

Movin' on up!

Pass on the Debut Carbon and Bronze since you can't later upgrade the turntable without replacing the entire turntable. For $100 more than the X1, VPI Cliffwood is made in the USA. Or $200 more than the X1, [Pro-ject the Classic](https://upscaleaudio.com/products/pro-ject-the-classic-turntable)

First let me define end game, I do not mean the best possible, I won't get that on my budget, but I mean the best for me, for my uses, and for my budget, something that I won't swap from for a decade or more. 

  
The easiest analogy is if I were a hobby driver. An end game racetrack vehicle for a proper racer would be a formula one car, but I don't need that, an upgraded golf to zoom around the track on would give me everything I need, and thus would be "end game" without being ridiculous.

So now that that's over the way! About me, I like vinyl, it's my preferred way to relax and listen to music. I have a marantz pm6005 and a pair of audioquest nighthawks (THEY ARE THE BEST HEADPHONES FIGHT ME) which are both nicely in my "end game" bracket.

Currently I have a Pro-ject 2.9 Classic, cherry. It's a nice, pretty table, but I want to move on from it.

I am looking for a few things:

1: Style. It's gotta be a pretty thing to look at, for this my project is great, glass platter, cherry wood plinth, beautiful. 

2: It's got to sound as good or better than my current table, or there is no point upgrading it!

3: It has to last. It might not be for a lot of people in this community, but $400 is a huge amount of money and not an investment I am making lightly, I want it to last. 

And thats about it, any other features (like button swappable speeds, semi auto function, etc) are nice, but not necessary. 

What have I looked for currently?

I like Pro-ject, so I've been looking at the Debut Carbon Esprit, and the Xpression Carbon, both of which are in budget, and fairly new so easy to get without needing to put a ton of work into them.

Additionally I've looked into the sl1200s and 1210s, they top the budget, and tend to need work, but the style choices (SO MANY AFTER MARKET UPGRADES) are top out of everything, and they're reputed to last a lifetime, while sounding as good as anything in the budget. But again, are on the higher end of the budget.

 I live in the UK so rega is cheaper here, but not a brand that sets me on fire emotionally, I can't really get hyped for them the same way as another table, plus the mine field of "we called ALL of our turntables planar 2, good luck finding which one is which!" has stumped me.

Additionally, I've been recommended a bunch of denon direct drives, but they also max the budget like the technics, and I know nothing about them.
