Given the reviews, I expected this to at least be without flaws. As a corkscrew it's fine, and the double-action does make it easier to maintain a straight pull to get some difficult corks started. However, the knife is really poorly designed: the serrations are too pointed and deep - effectively a row of tiny pointed teeth - and therefore it tends not to cut the foil of a thick, high-quality capsule as much as tear it, which just makes an ugly mess of things. I can't imagine trying to serve a bottle of wine to a table of diners with this (I'm not a waiter) as I'm pretty sure it would make anyone look like an amateur by completely mangling the capsule rather than making a nice, clean cut

OK, not great. The problem is the knife.

This corkscrew is fine, but it used to be a better design. I swear I've ordered this before and back then it had a hole at one end where you could add a keyring loop, or, what I like to add to a corkscrew: a carabiner clip. That way I can grab the corkscrew out of my drawer and quickly clip it to our wine carrier when we go to a friend's house for dinner, or to a BYOB BBQ type place, or to a beach picnic, or even just for when we take a roadtrip and want to have a wine carrier along with a handy corkscrew. It is such a small detail to miss, but it is so worth the inclusion

Decent corkscrew lacking a hole to add a keyring/carabiner clip, so: meh to me

 The double hinge feature doesn't seem to add anything and the foil cutter is the worst I've seen. It's tiny; gets the job done but requires extra effort because of its size. Overall, ok but certainly not impressive.

  *I am updating this 8 years later to say that I still have and use this wine opener. It does not have the heft and stability of more expensive wine keys, but it is apparently pretty durable. I used it intermittently as a waitress for 3 years in a restaurant where I served a lot of bottles of wine (I had another opener I used more regularly). Now I only use it at home for occasional use

 I wouldn't recommend this corkscrew, but I also realize I got what I paid for... it was only 5 dollars

..I am afraid to use it on a rubber cork because they tend to be even more stubborn than real cork. I work in a restaurant and was really hoping for something more durable/sturdy

Basically about as good as I can ask of a tool for the price and certainly better than most other double hinges. ( If you serve wine the double hinge is ideal). I bartend in a restaurant and probably open about 30- 50 bottles a week. Im tough on it and it’s held up this far

About this to work at an Italian restaurant where we sell many bottles of wine. The hinge kind of bends the wrong way on really stiff corks. Has gotten the job done without breaking so far but you can tell it's struggling.
