Hello,

I'm based in Hong Kong (tiny flats, no space to store anything!) and I'm looking at buying my first folding bicycles for myself and my son who is about to turn 13.

I want the largest wheels that I can get where the bike can still be easily picked up and carried and is allowed on the train. 24 inch I think is the sweet spot. For my son, 20 inches is probably okay.

Here are the choices I've got:

1st choice for myself = tern node d8 selling for around 800 USD new (but I may be able to find it 2nd hand but like new for around 600 USD. It's the only 24 inch wheel bike so if I insist on getting 24 inches then it's my only choice.

3 choices for my son (or me, if any of these are better in your opinion than the Node D8)

A) Tern Link B8 for 500 USD
B) Dahon Mariner D8 for 500 USD
C) Dahon Launch or Archer for 500-550 USD

My son likes the Mariner D8 ("because it's black") but I'm not convinced he will ever use the pannier or will go out in the rain, so was more leaning to the Archer, which has better brakes, wheels, and an included pump, and a stronger but heavier frame.

The guy in the shop selling the Tern Link B8 wasn't able to really communicate well in English so I couldn't really get an expert view on the merits of the Tern Link B8. Is it better than the Dahons for the same price?

Thanks for any advice you can give! Basically we just want to be able to use the bike to get around town and go on and off public transport, which is extremely difficult with full size mountain bikes.

I have been looking all over the Philippines for a folding bike. I have been mesmerized by the versatility and classic design of Brompton's but those are extremely rare (and $$$$). I really looked all over the internet and so far the classic style and overall reliability of Brompton got me. Anyway...

My current brand options due to availability are Tern, Dahon, Bickerton, and Bacini. I am thinking about giving a chance to the Tern brand but I would like to know if there are other pieces of information that I might need to know about all these brands and/or a particular model to look for.

The overall usage for my folding bike is only for commute (10-15 min ride) and casual weekend riding when able to. 

Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!!

Hello! I am about to embrace the folding bike world and I don't know which to choose from. Here are my options.

Most people I speak to just say to get a Brompton and be done with it, but it doesn't seem that simple. Here's what I have so far:

Use case - leisure rides, mostly in well developed, flat urban areas. I won't be using it to commute, but I do need it to be foldable so it can fit in the trunk of my car. Doesn't need to be the most compact or the lightest, though buying something well built and of good quality is important to me. I'm basically a beginner rider so don't need anything particularly fancy or fast, but do want it to be comfortable and easy to ride. Are 16" wheels that much of an impediment and will 20" be a better choice?

Budget - I don't really have one and can spring for a Brompton or something equivalent if necessary.
