Recent pickup for $250 - whether you are just getting into audio or been down the rabbit hole for awhile I can’t recommend this line of Technics turntables enough!

Best kept secret of the audiophile world. Technics SL-1200 and it's cousins are excellent sounding decks.

Which table should I keep: Technics SL-Q2 or SL-D2?

I have an SL Q2 and did use the SL D2 before. In principle (note: in principle) the SL Q2 is the better turntable because of the full metal plinth and because of the quartz lock. Another advantage is a slightly better tonearm on the SL Q2 and for these reasons it was somewhat more expensive than the SL D2.

Birthday Gift for Friend

My buddy and I decided to upgrade our friend's system for his birthday (he currently has a crosley). Picked him up a Technics SL-Q2 and a Pioneer SX-770. My buddy is throwing in some KLH speakers to go with it. We are very jealous of his setup now.

Fluance RT82 or old Technics turntable?

$200-300 should be enough to get you an SL-Q2 or SL-Q202 and those would be better than the Fluance by a wide margin.

The advantage, though, is P-mount is \*much\* easier to adjust: essentially there is no adjustment necessary at all. 🙂. You could also look for some other nice Technics direct drive models, most are really good. Personally I like the older models best, such as SL-Q2, SL-Q3 and SL-D2 or SL-D3.

Upgrading my turntable after getting a crappy crosley, i want a turntable with anti skate and a tonearm weight adjustment, does anyone own a angel horn? Was planning to get the AT LP60X, but it does not have such adjustments and the ones they offer are out of my budget. I am a noob can someone help?

These are dependable and low-maintenance. For instance the Technics SL-Q2 or Q3, SL-1300 or SL-1700, SL-D2 or mid-range turntables from Sansui, Kenwood, Pioneer etc. You should maybe budget about $100 to $150 for one of these in good shape.

Vintage turntable shopping - is it an upgrade?

Going to echo other people here and recommend Technics direct drive models. I have both an SL-Q2 and SL-D2; I'd recommend either, with the former edging out the latter overall if given the choice. The specs on even some of their 80's quartz locked p-mount decks (cheaper plastic build aside) are kind of staggering compared to a lot of mid-fi stuff that gets hyped today. But I think the SL-D and SL-Q series each provide great value (not nearly celebrated enough compared to the 1200).
