This doorbell should take 15 minutes tops to install. Well, get ready to spend an hour. The screws to hold the wires do not retract enough to get the wires under and around the screws to tighten them down. Took over twenty minutes of messing around with this annoyance

I got this doorbell to tie into my home security system and replace a 1st gen Ring camera. Overall, it was fairly simple to install, but I had connectivity problems almost immediately. Finicky about wifi - make sure you have plenty of extra bandwidth

Speaker isn't loud enough

 Distant to router is just about 15 feet on 2G and hard wired to doorbell power. Still, notifications are spotty at best. Miss out on human approaching door and if they do not ring the bell, the camera fails to wake up. Not happy with this Simply Safe contraption

It worked great for about 90 days and now it won't stay connected.

Make sure you have existing wiring to your front door. This product is completely useless if you don't.

You need an existing doorbell with power!

 Even the indoor Simplicam motion sensor cannot be set up on your base station as an "away" state motion sensor which seem like a huge miss on design and implementation.  Also seems the whole doorbell issue could have been mitigated if the Doorbell Pro chime button could be made to operate with the base station to replace chimes (it makes a loud alarm sound so expect it could also do a chime?). This seems like a simple software fix but at this point SimpliSafe hasn't committed to doing anything to address the design problem other than sending a piece of hardware that disables your door chime. Ditto for integration of cam sensors with the base alarm system

 Called customer service and they initially suggested I could just go to hardware store and replace my chime with an electro-mechanical door chime (invented in 1930's btw) as the Doorbell Pro is not compatible with modern doorbell chimes that are standard in almost every home built since the 90's. I indicated to the rep that this was very disappointing as the limitation doesn't appear in the product description or on the package. She told me "yeah we hear that a lot, sorry!" so Simplisafe is fully aware the design and marketing of the product are pretty sketchy at best. After some more discussion I was offered the "Chime Connection" kit for free

.NO chiming. So the camera is now usable but we have no door chime?  First of all, you should know that SimpliSafe cams (both the Doorbell Pro and Simplicam) DO NOT work with the SimpliSafe security base station. Instead they require a smart phone app to access (can also get through browser with login), and their sensor information cannot be used to trigger an alarm

 FYI if you do have a subscription you can download archival video within 30 days of recording but obviously would be much better (for users, at least) if the video could be recorded locally as well.  All in all SimpliSafe has done a poor job on product design, customer communication and followup on fixes for the Doorbell Pro so hard to recommend right now. It's a shame since the SimpliSafe security system is actually pretty good, with exception of cams.

21st century tech requires 20th century doorbell - Doh!

 They offered to send a new video doorbell and outdoor camera, along with a brand of wifi extender they prefer (it would have been helpful if I had been told this BEFORE I ordered an extender a month earlier).  By this time I was done with Simplisafe and told them I wanted to return the system. I was sent a return label which I used to send it via USPS. A month later now and I'm still fighting Simplisafe to get my money back

Initial problem was getting the doorbell to connect to wifi, so I bought an extender as sugggested by Simplisafe tech support. The doorbell wouldn't connect to the extender so they sent a new doorbell. After multiple attempts it finally connected to the extender

 Next problem was that one of the two oudoor cameras that came with this system, and the video doorbell would not connect to wifi after an internet outage. I spent HOURS on the phone with Simplisafe tech support over three consecuitive days and they couldn't figure out what was going on. They offered to send a new video doorbell and outdoor camera, along with a brand of wifi extender they prefer (it would have been helpful if I had been told this BEFORE I ordered an extender a month earlier).  By this time I was done with Simplisafe and told them I wanted to return the system

I really wanted to like this system, however the cameras were too temperamental so I returned it

 Although my phone has no issues connecting to the wifi by the front door the SimpliSafe Doorbell simple refused to connect. To get it to work I needed to not only add a range extender to boost the wifi signal, but also change the name of the wife network.  Although SimpliSafe don't document it anywhere, searching their forums highlighted the fact that your wifi network name must have no spaces or special characters, such as an apostrophes. Removing these from my wifi network (and changing all the other devices in the house) along with the wifi extender finally enabled the doorbell to connect to the network

If you already have a SimpliSafe system then this is a good purchase, but be aware that you may have some wifi headaches.  Installation of replacing an existing wired doorbell went smoothly until it came to connect it to the wifi. Although my phone has no issues connecting to the wifi by the front door the SimpliSafe Doorbell simple refused to connect. To get it to work I needed to not only add a range extender to boost the wifi signal, but also change the name of the wife network

Poor wifi range

Works very well with our existing simplisafe system/account. Notifies you when someone approaches the door. The quality of the video is alright, it's not the best for sure.  Setup was very simple and easy, though I already had existing wiring

 I did have to use caulking around the center as this is not very wide and if you have a hole in the wall from the traditional doorbell wiring you may have some gaps but that was an easy fix. Connecting to the network was quick and easy, it just showed up in the app once complete.  The angel of view is not as wide as other doorbell cameras which can be a little troublesome if you want to see packages the that have been left this probably won't work.
