What is a cheap good microphone i can get for recording vocals?

You can get a classic sm58 or a beta 58. There cheap and hard to go wrong with either one. There’s also the sm57, which is less ideal for vocals, but is a more versatile mic and is better suited for recording instruments then the 58

IMO it's much better than a SM 58 on vocals, in a way that's similar to how you describe the V7.

\- beta58A: To much cymbal bleed in my in-ears, to much proximity effect. \- Audix OM7: great off-axis rejection. Way to much 1k, really nasal sounding. \- I found that mic's that reject the bleed well often sound weird, the bleed sounds garbled.

SM58 or KSM8

You could consider a Beta58A if you need more GBF - it’s a supercardioid, which means the nulls are on the sides, which again means less bleed from other instruments, but you’ll ideally have to have two monitors in a v-shape in front of you (or one angled on one side) as it picks up sound straight behind it as well. The Beta58A is also warmer sounding to my ears, great, balanced low mids. I’ve seen other people recommend the Beyer M88. That one’s a lifesaver for extreme volume situations because you can practically kiss the capsule - you’ll get even closer to the diaphragm with that mic than with the Shure style spheres.

Need recommendation: sm58 beta vs sm7b for vocals?

Because you can get a little closer to the mic diaphragm than you can with the SM7B, you'll get a little bit more output but at the risk of more popping. The Beta58A's tighter supercardioid pattern is designed to reduce stage monitor feedback which doesn't do anything for you in a recording situation unless the room is quite noisy. It is a bit more sensitive and slightly brighter sounding than the SM58.

Is it really noisy in there? Will the audience be allowed to ask questions? The Beta58A is a great choice by the way. Mic stands: 4 generic stands will be fine, either with the iron-frisbee base or tripod style.

Looking for a change from the SM58

I often find myself opting for Shure Beta 58's and Sennheiser E945's, both of which of course offer a super-cardioid polar pattern. When using floor monitors with these mics, angling the wedges to compensate for the rear pick-up point is crucial. In certain situations, a combination of Sennheiser E935's (cardioid) and E945's (super-cardioid) is the way to go if floor monitor positioning is limited.

Home Recording

- Shure Beta 57: cheap but great sounding and great quality mic. It has a supercardioid polar pattern so you get great noise rejection. - You can get any of the more expensive broadcast mics (Shure SM7B, EV RE20, Sennheiser MD421,...) and they will all be good pics, but they're expensive and the difference in sound with the cheaper mics is negligible.
