 Get an API test kit if you dont already have one. I think its best you use a dechlorinator. Seachem prime is good, also detoxifies ammonie for a while

Lastly, you need to reread on how much space a fish needs. Goldfish get huge and require a lot of space.

 Then do 50% water changes regularly (daily?) for a couple weeks to remove toxic ammonia while beneficial bacteria builds up. Lastly, and i know this is hard, but if possible look into getting a bigger tank for your fish or rehousing them in a larger body of water as i think it is too small for them. You can get golden barbs those are kinda like goldfish but smaller (but make sure you read up on them first)

Never owned an aquarium and fish before, got my first 4 goldfish today, this white/orange colour blend goldfish is acting a bit weird, as I said idk much abt aquariums and fish behaviour but it doesn't look right

 So make sure you also buy a syringe or some other measuring tool. You should ALWAYS dechlorinate water BEFORE adding to the aquarium, not after. So aside from commercial operations, i don’t know who they expect to use the cap measurements.  Considering their product costs 3x more than others, you would think they could send a cup/syringe/eye dropper that could actually be used to measure doses, and the directions would be understandable and “new guy” friendly

Seachem Paraguard and Tetra Lifeguard are both treat-all medications. Depending where you are one or the other may be easier to get. Start with one of those. Follow directions- if he has anything, they’ll catch it if it’s bacterial, fungal, or even parasitic

Getting your tank to the parameters I outlined are paramount to a healthy, long life for your betta.

I know this is a really long post, but it’s the basics and what i wish i knew when i had to care for a fish because my mom bought one without thinking. I hope it helps and if you have any questions please ask ❤️

- DONT GET A TANK KIT. i got a tank kit that came with “everything i needed” to start and let me tell you, it cost me more in the long run.

 The aquarium salt will increase slime coat production and the resulting mucus production will protect their gills from nitrite and ammonia poisoning. Conditioner will detoxify the water. Concentrated beneficial bacteria will mimic the cycle necessary to convert ammonia to nitrite to nitrate. Ammonia is very toxic and produced by fish

Doing an emergency fish in cycle for my tank and this stuff is amazing. Can get me through the trials of being a new fish owner and keep him safe till healthy bacteria is established in my tank. Performing Emergency fish-in cycle with Seachem Prime  Step 1: Set up your aquarium It’s time to set up your aquarium. And, that includes all the equipment – heaters, filters, air pumps… Get it in there! Don’t forget to rinse it with fresh water first! The beneficial bacteria need a surface to cling to, namely your substrate and filter media

 Keep repeating this. You will eventually notice that your ammonia drops to zero. This is a good thing – bacteria are eating the ammonia as quickly as it is being produced, resulting in a zero reading. Continue daily dosing and testing for ammonia and nitrites

 Picture Seachem Prime locking up ammonia, nitrite and nitrate in a jail cell for up to 48 hours. While in the cell, these nasties cannot harm your fish. However, once their time is up, and they are released, they will once again attack your fish. It is for this reason that you need to dose regularly with Seachem Prime, to keep these nasties locked up

 Between 1 ppm and 2 ppm, two doses. You get the idea. Oh, and it goes without saying that it’s better to overdose than underdose. *Once your test kit reads 2 ppm of ammonia, you should perform a 50% water change
