 The convenience of this binding is brilliant. So it's such an easy setup, it's so easy to actually flip these over as razors and also you can use your ski pole to twist around. So when you're actually on the mountain it's just so easy to actually go into ski and and hike mode straight away and that's what I love about them is you can actually use the pole and you can twist them around. Now some tech bindings are really small and you actually have to take off your boots and come off the ski to actually then go into downhill mode

Now what I love about this binding is that it's very light, it is only 295 grams per binding so it actually goes on to my lightest setup, ski touring setup. Atomic/Salomon MTN Binding Review: How To Use Them and the PROS AND CONS

I really like the Salomon MTN binding (with brakes) if you can find something equipped with those. Look bindings are awesome, if you’re committed to the one ski quiver, make sure they’re compatible with CAST, I know some are and some aren’t. As far as boots, try on a ton and get what feels right, they’re worth the most investment of any part of the system. Scarpa Maestrale RS works for me but everybody fits differently!

I want a 1 ski-quiver that would probably be 80-90% resort and 10-20% backcountry. I've done a lot of research and this is what I came up with. I am not 100% sure on the boots, but I know someone who has them and they have no complaints (plus, they are 200 bucks off). 

I am 6'2, 170 lbs, I would consider myself high intermediate into expert.

I am pretty set on my skis. My bigger questions have to do with the bindings. Do you think that these or the Marker Duke Pt would be the better option? I would say that I ski pretty aggressively (park, moguls, trees, etc) and I want a binding that I can trust on the downs. Another upside to the CAST is that I would not need to purchase the upgrade right away (I think) and I can purchase them at a later date without too much trouble. 

Ive done about no research on the boots yet but I am planning on doing so before I purchase them. Is there any blaring problems with them or are they good boots? Are there any good reviews you can point me to?

Is Resort/Backcountry setup good for my needs?

 Hey guys, Chase from Gear30 and today we're going to be talking about the Salomon MTN Pure. So I have here in my hand the Salomon MTN Pure, which is Salomon's version of a pin touring binding. Super, super lightweight and its feature set that you get for the lightweight is just like second to none. One thing I really like about the toe piece is the toe piece has a lot of extruded parts

 For this feature set and for the weight, it's quickly becoming my favorite touring binding. I have about a half a season on it and I've had zero problems with it. I love the performance of this binding.

 You got one hill riser, two hill risers, and then you're back to ski mode. So super, super lightweight and a really easy binding to use. Salomon MTN Pure

 This is Salomon's new tech binding that we've all been waiting for. This binding comes in at 595 grams per pair without the brakes. That's extremely light. It's actually the lightest touring binding that we've reviewed here at BackcountrySkiingCanada

 You know, versus a kingpin, you're saving almost a kilogram, which is a lot of weight on your foot. And the design is nice and simple. Brakes are deactivated with your pole as well, so you can do that quick changeover with ripping your skins without taking your skis off. And I've just found that they've performed well

 It's a super light binding, simple to use. There's not a lot of things to really learn on it, and the weight savings is huge. You know, versus a kingpin, you're saving almost a kilogram, which is a lot of weight on your foot. And the design is nice and simple

 That's extremely light. It's actually the lightest touring binding that we've reviewed here at BackcountrySkiingCanada. To give you some reference, the Plume Guide binding comes in at 670 grams, the G3 Ion is 1170 grams, and then the Kingpin is 1460 grams, so this is a super light binding. The binding has 30 millimeters of adjustment in the back, so you can accommodate different boot lengths in there, and then there's also a step-in aid device in the toe, and this works really well

 7.6 oz. with brakes) and $450, and you can adjust the DIN anywhere between 6 and 12 (compared to the MTN’s three release settings). We also like the gapless heel piece, which moves along a track to account for ski flex and promotes a smoother ride and more consistent release than the MTN Pure

 I’d feel confident mounting these bindings on an even wider, more aggressive ski. Trimming weight from a binding has inevitable consequences, and while the MTN Pure balances impressive uphill and downhill performance, it sacrifices traditional DIN settings in favor of three predetermined options. Each binding comes with three removable, interchangeable U-shaped pins that can be swapped out based on weight and ability: women’s, men’s, or expert. Given that my weight is well over 200 pounds, I opted for the highest-release-value U-spring and put it (and my skiing ability) to the test in Jackson Hole, where I engaged in some harsh mixed snow/ice skiing

 Each binding comes with three removable, interchangeable U-shaped pins that can be swapped out based on weight and ability: women’s, men’s, or expert. Given that my weight is well over 200 pounds, I opted for the highest-release-value U-spring and put it (and my skiing ability) to the test in Jackson Hole, where I engaged in some harsh mixed snow/ice skiing. Even while clumsily navigating frozen moguls through trees, the binding kept me secure and had no pre-release issues. The Salomon MTN has also excelled when I’ve pushed my skis in big turns at higher speeds, even while wearing a loaded 30-pound ski backpack

 For hard-charging skiers, the Marker Kingpin 13 excels on the descent, especially when it comes to freeride performance. But all that power comes at a cost: 3 pounds 0.7 ounces, to be exact, which is mostly due to the spring-loaded heel versus the traditional two-pin tech heel connection in the MTN Pure. That said, this full alpine heel helps transfer power like a burly downhill binding, making the Kingpin 13 a clear winner on any fast descent
