 Although it's not exactly, it's not the full width of the top there, it's absolutely good to go. That's a nice little detail and something you should always look at when you've got a handle mounted to a flap like that. Next thing, this guy has what's called a backpack mode, which means if I were to take this guy off, and actually here, I'll put it in backpack mode for you right quick. I mean, if you look at this guy, it's absolutely sufficient, but it's not like overbuilt to it

 But my bigger conclusion, I think that's maybe more generally applicable, is that this is a substantially nice bag. And I think that for some people, this could be their first, their last, their only leather briefcase. If they're okay with the weight, if they're okay with the overbuilding, frankly, if they love it, if that's like their aesthetic, and they want something that's just as beefy as they feel that their soul is or whatever brings them that joy, and if they're okay with the price, then this is going to be a really, really great piece. And I think they'll love it to the end of their days, because let's be real here, it'll probably survive them

 This isn't a great choice. It is a beautiful bag. It is a functional bag. But it is just too heavy and too overbuilt for my taste, and I'm not in love with the aesthetic, the overbuilt aesthetic of it, because that really is, it's as much an aesthetic choice as it is an engineering and durability one to deal with it

 Hey everybody, Nick here, and today I've got a review for you of this big old guy right here.

 This is the Saddleback Leather Slim Laptop Briefcase.

 First off, I want to thank my Patreon patrons very much for actually letting me pick this little guy up.

 This is an expensive item, but luckily I have people who are willing to support what I'm doing

 and allow me to check something out just because I want to check it out and give it a little bit more time.

 Next thing, let's do a size comparison right quick.

 Here it is against the Spydeco Delica, so you can see it's a little larger than that.

 Here it is against the Saddleback Leather Front Pocket Briefcase.

 So you can see here that these are much smaller.

 The Slim Laptop is both slimmer as well as smaller overall on most dimensions, which is nice, certainly is nice.

 Here it is against the Nutsack Bags, yeah that's actually the name, Satchel Pro.

 So you can see here it is substantially larger than the Satchel Pro here.

 And then here it is against the Frank Clegg Leatherworks English Briefcase.

 You can see it's a little bit smaller than this guy is, but yeah, slightly a lot thinner, or I'm sorry, a little bit thicker.

 Then let's see here, next thing, Saddleback Leather.

 Well, you can see right here there's their makers' mark.

 This is a leather maker company out of, I think they're based in Texas someplace, imported goods though.

 But nevertheless, they're an interesting company, and they've kind of become a boutique leather brand.

 They've made a name for themselves, and I'm really playing that up a little bit.

 This is the Chestnut Leather variety, but you can also get it in black or gray, or actually I don't know if gray.

 You can get the Tobacco Leather color, that's this color right here is Tobacco.

 But I went with the Chestnut because I tend to like that option.

 Then finally I'll introduce the elephant in the room, which is the price.

 And by the way, sorry if you're hearing jets buzzing the area here.

 This is actually the day of the Miramar Air Show.

 I'm not far from the base, so that's kind of a thing.

 Let's go ahead and talk about the good, the great, the bad, and the ugly of this very interesting little briefcase here.

 So on the good side, to start with, there are some nice construction elements to it.

 This guy has a bar that is mounted underneath the handle here.

 So you can see that the handle straps actually go directly into this metal bar here, as does this little guy for the backpack here.

 That means that over the long run, sometimes if you have the handle just, then the entire top of it has a tendency to kind of pinch up and tent up.

 This is going to give this guy a little bit more longevity than you might expect.

 Although it's not exactly, it's not the full width of the top there, it's absolutely good to go.

 That's a nice little detail and something you should always look at when you've got a handle mounted to a flap like that.

 Next thing, this guy has what's called a backpack mode, which means if I were to take this guy off, and actually here, I'll put it in backpack mode for you right quick.

 What I need to do is take this guy, unscrew, or unscrew, undo this little region here.

 Then what I do is I take this, I attach on this side.

 Actually, no, that's right, I attach down here for backpack mode.

 Then what you do is you slide this guy through here.

 Then what you do is you slide this little guy, this pad, back onto the belt here, strap I suppose.

 Then after all that is said and done, all you need to do is pop this into here, and this into here, and this goes down to here.

 Now what you actually have here is a briefcase that is actually passably a backpack, and it's not uncomfortable.

 I actually have used the backpack mode once or twice now, mostly on days where I decide, you know what, it's beautiful, I'm going to just walk home from work.

 Considering my walk is about an hour or so, this really feels a lot better, especially with a heavier pack and heavier laptop, things like that, than a lot of other approaches.

 It's a little dorky, absolutely 100%, but you know what, my back I think prefers me being a dork, and so that's a nice little option there.

 One thing to note though is it does take a little bit of time, as you noticed, to get everything arranged properly.

 Next thing, this guy actually has a nice selection of pockets here.

 I'll put everything back together right quick here.

 Actually, I think I'm just going to lose the strap for the moment because I don't really need it for the review.

 Next thing, this guy has a nice little selection of pockets.

 You can see that in addition to having this front pocket here, which is just one big chunk, by the way, there's not like multiple subdivisions or anything in here, you have a pocket right behind it.

 Inside the main pocket, you have these two sub-pockets on the side, hopefully you can see those.

 Yeah, down here, and then over on the other side here.

 You've got those guys, you have a laptop sleeve in the back there, which is nice, and it actually does keep the laptop suspended a little bit above the bottom of the thing, such that if you set the pack down hard, the case down hard, it's not going to injure your laptop, that's nice.

 And then in addition, you have a pocket out here, you've got a pocket out here, and you also have a pocket in the back here.
