I called my local bike shop and they have Rocky Mountain Growler 40 coming being delivered in about 2.5 weeks. This is my first bike in about 10-12 years, so my experience is a little dated. I've watched a few reviews and it seems like a pretty good package.

Check out the Rocky Mountain Growler 40, Hardtail that you can comfortably ride like a full squish. Has super slack geo but since it's a hardtail it still climbs great and is a very good deal at 1600 USD.

Mines a 2015 and going strong. Very good customer service, I’ve emailed them a few times for service info and they always reply quickly. The top spec aluminum Marshall and Django models come in at $4500 or so, leaves you some money to make and changes you might want. If you stick with a hard tail the Kobain seems pretty decent, but you might be better off with a Rocky Mtn Growler.

\- Good on blue and some black trails, but not expecting to do a lot of downhill, jumps, etc. I do expect rooty, rocky, conditions and want something that can be fun to throw around at a bike park. I have the Rocky Mountain Growler, Kona Honzo, and Ragley Big Al on my list and looking to include other options.

For flat single track and the occasional lift-op DH park I would go with a capable hardtail.

Rocky Mountain Growler is within your budget and I've heard nothing but good things about it.
