Finally upgraded a 10ish year old LP120 to the Pro-Ject X2. Spinning The Birthday Massacre “Diamonds” cause it was the last record played this morning on the LP that made me finally decide even after upgrading the cart and getting an external phono amp it still sounded like trash coming out my KEF 950’s. Edit the upgraded cart on the LP120 that gave me an improvement but not enough was the Ortofon Red. X2 comes with a Sumiko Moonstone.

Overall I'm very happy with my turntable, and I like that there's an easy upgrade path for the stylus. You can use the existing cartridge and install a better Sumiko stylus if you want. Only real downside in my opinion is the lack of VTA adjustment, so if you intend to replace your platter or get a different cartridge like an Ortofon, for instance, this might be a factor. As far as the preamp, if you're building an audiophile system, you almost certainly want an external preamp anyway.

/A phono will definitely help, integrated amps generally spend about 10c on the phono, a decent phono has adjustments for the cartridge which makes a bit difference in lowering the sound floor towards silence . Great looking setup, I bought one of those Pro-Ject turntables as my first setup and they are a great value unit.

Loving it so far albeit HMV, Discogs and the local record stores are probably living me more 😂. So the pro-ject came with an Ortofon OM10 fitted, seen on the photo. My knowledge gleaned to date is that the stylus/cartridge is probably the most important accessory on a table so if I want to upgrade this is the first point of call rather than a straight new table.
