 Well today I've been reviewing the Ping G30 irons and really you're probably going to

 wonder what's new about this iron and the answer is the head size is still pretty similar

 to what it was in the G25 and most of the previous G irons because this has been one

 of the number one selling irons in the market so they're not going to fiddle around with

 it too much. What they have done though is make some very subtle changes which really

 enhance the performance of the club and I think they've done a good job with this. The

 camber on the sole has been tweaked to allow it to get through the grass more easily and

 then in the toe of the trailing edge though it used to be quite noticeable in the G25

 and you kind of thought it had gone actually but it's still there, it's actually been made

 a little bit longer so it goes a bit further down the back edge of the club and all that's

 going to do is help with the forgiveness of the club. If you look closer you can see that

 the cavity in the back of the club has made it a little bigger too especially around the

 toe area and the custom tuning pole which is the badge in the middle of the back of

 the head is a little bit wider and a little bit bigger as well and what that does is to

 change how the club sounds and how the club feels. So how did the club sound and feel?

 I have to say it sounded and felt very good indeed and the biggest compliment I can give

 it is that it sounded and felt like a better players cavity backed iron and that's excellent

 really considering this is a cast iron made for mid to high handicappers. The flight in

 it was medium to high, it certainly got it up in the air without ballooning at all and

 I think this can suit really a wide range of players from those who are probably high

 single figures right the way up into the 20s as well. The set goes from 4 to pitching wedge

 and as you go up the set the hosels have a little bit more offset and the heads become

 a bit longer just to help with that forgiveness and make it easier to hit. The wedge is probably

 a little bit on the chunky side and there is an option for a gat wedge, a sand wedge

 and a lob wedge so you might want to check those out but if you don't like them you've

 got the option of some of Ping's custom fitted toe wedges which will probably be a lot more

 playable. Overall I think Ping have done a great job with the G30 irons. The changes

 they made aren't revolutionary, they've just been enhancements to what was already a very

 good iron indeed and I think they've certainly added something to it. I think it sounds and

 feels better, I think it goes through the turf a little bit better and the forgiveness

 which was always great before has really been enhanced a little bit more. So if you're looking

 for a good iron and you're in that mid handicap category then the G30 is definitely one to

Now if you are an average amateur you're probably going to gain about three quarters of a mile an hour but even so it still is a gain and it's great to see a technology come along which actually improves the dynamics of the club and the performance of the club. So well done Ping for that

 Ping first launched the G-Range in 2008 and it came with a blue colour scheme and it was

 really a standout club at that time. Now we have the G30 and it still has that blue colour

 scheme but we haven't gone through 28 iterations, this is the 7th generation and really the

 standout feature on this club is the Turbulators. And you can't have to say it in that movie

 trailer voice because I don't think there's any other way of saying it. Now what the Turbulators

 do is to smooth the airflow over the top of the club and what that does is to increase

 the club head speed and that increases the ball speed and that will give you a little

 more distance. So we thought we'd check this out. And we took the G30 driver down with

 the G25 driver to our range here and used Trackman to see if it did increase the club

 head speed. Now the results from this were quite interesting because the G25 averaged

 105.5 miles an hour and the G30 averaged 106.5 miles an hour. So you get an extra 1 mile

 an hour which might not sound like much but for every mile an hour of extra club head

 speed you're probably going to gain about four or five yards of carry plus a little

 bit of roll. So that's probably worth about half a club for your average player. Now Bob
