Now to the NERO, I have to say that I’m somewhat disappointed. There has been so much hype about it, with the carbon-fiber, plastic body and the mechanism, how could we not buy one, sight unseen?. The first thing I noticed, was the clip. It’s small and isn’t nearly as sturdy as the traditional one Pentel has used for years.

The rOtring 600 and the Orenz Nero, both .5mm, are the perfect pencils in their own rights. I use the rOtring for precision line work and drawings, whereas the Nero is an excellent note-taking utensil. You really can't go wrong with any of them!

This is a fine pencil. Used it for about three months until it stopped retaining the lead upon writing. Once any pressure was met by the lead, it would retreat back up into its hole like a spooked chipmunk. I kid you not, I took this puppy apart and cleaned it thrice, yet the chimpmunkiness remains ...

This pencil wrote wonderfully. It felt premium and was a joy to use. Why am speaking in the past tense. It only lasted a year. Randomly the mechanism just broke down one day. The led simply will not stay in place. No drops, no heavy use. Had to knock value for money down to one star. A one-year life...

The Orenz Nero is pretty good if you are looking for smaller lead sizes, otherwise it's kind of just a gimmick.

Pentel Orenzs in 0.3mm usually break. I took a chance and mine lasted a couple months. If you're lucky you may be able to get it fixed but I did not have luck with the seller. I have also bought the cheaper plastic version which also broke but it only lasted about a week.

I was going around one of the Stationery Shops here in Shenzhen and they had this promotion - Buy a Art Knife plus a pack of extra blades and for 140RMB more take a Pentel Orenz Nero... I said I was not going to cave in the temptation of buying a Pentel Orenz Nero since I prefer to buy a Set of Ballpoint + Mechanical Pencil with the same design (See my old posts where I have pictures of both my rOtring 600 set and Pentel GG 1000 set). I open a precedent some time ago with the Ohto Multi MF-20K3B and said it was the first and last time I would do that. Looks like the "*fish dies by the mouth"*... Now please Pentel, pretty please release a Ballpoint in the same design of the Orenz Nero, as a way to justify my sin.
