Olympus TG-5

The TG-5 is great for macro life, it gets very close performance to cameras 5x its price. What is does poorly though is wide angle, since there's no real way to produce fish-eye effects with it like you can with an interchangeable lens camera (like your Sony) and a dome port. Dome ports can be pretty cumbersome though, but they're great for photographing larger animals like mantas and sharks. The TG is a good little compact as long as the limitations of it aren't a bother.

Amazon should be a lot more explicit about what's in the box. They said there is a charger. There is NO battery charger. I do not consider an USB cable a battery charger. If you're beginning, I'd recommend leaving the strobe for a later purchase. The Canon is a better above water camera for sure; but the Olympus is excellent at macro and closeups, both above and below.

The Olympus TG5 replaced a Nikon AW100. The picture quality for the TG5 did not seem as good to me as the ancient AW100. This is true, I have the P400 TG (non-mesh) and I had to buy 2 Noctua fans to bring the temp down inside the case. This wouldn’t have happened if I bought (or at least if the store has in stock) a more airflow-focused case.
