I like the Nikon Coolpix because it is waterproof, shockproof and very easy to use. It has a wide variety of scenes to select, takes 4K video and is somewhat adjustable. It also has location tracking that displays an elevation profile while tracking is on.

I’m happy with my Nikon Coolpix. Easy to rebalance white at depth, video, optical zoom and small size. Good to 30m.

Other people on this post are recommending you get a full frame, interchangeable lens camera. I recommend against that because if it's your first camera, you'll want something like the the Nikon Coolpix, Sony Cybershot, or Canon Powershot that will give you a good introduction into photography because they all have multiple features built directly into the camera. A decent point and shoot such as the ones I listed above are a good way to learn what kind of photography you enjoy doing.
