 This one is great for Parmesan, coconut, lemon zest, all that stuff. Now let me tell you what I like about it. I Really like the handle. It's very comfortable, very comfortable

 Now what I don't like I Don't like that the top part this part is thick. It makes it very hard to hang on smaller hooks. that's why I don't hang it and the other thing that I don't like. but maybe it's just you know the character of the Beast I Don't like that it has this round edge here when you great stuff gets stuck right there and it makes it harder to clean

  BETTER: * NECK: They removed the serration holes from 1/2" long neck of the rasp nearest the handle, which improved a structural weak point in the original product. I already had one rasp break at the neck after extended use, so this was a positive improvement.  * FEET: Although its hard to tell in the picture, the back bends of the end of the rasp now have permanent little hard plastic caps, allowing the blade to be pressed downwards into one's work board, for grating .

. a minor improvement when grating hard products onto a countertop or into a workbowl.  WORSE:  * CLEAR SHEATH: The clear protective sleeve is now (sadly) flimsier and less durable, as is the product sticker affixed to same. The old sheath was just fine, so I have no idea why they chose to suddenly wimp it out

 Sadly, my last remaining microplane broke recently (more on that in a bit), so I opted to give the new redesign a whirl.  I'll skip all the uses and features of this product, which past owners are already familiar with, and for which product descriptions abound, and just focus on what's changed, for better or worse, in the latest model. I've owned or given away at least a half dozen over the years since then. Sadly, my last remaining microplane broke recently (more on that in a bit), so I opted to give the new redesign a whirl. New design a mixed blessing

 It didn't get the stain out, but it did take off the dark finish. Seems like something that shouldn't happen with a tool you're using to prepare food. I'll be rubbing the rest of it off.  To the Microplane product team: Are you testing all the materials and finishes on your product? Why even bother with this dark metal finish, plain metal would be fine

Nice blade, easy to use, but there's this dark finish on the metal parts of the handle that rubs off easily with just water and baking soda. I found out by accident while trying to get a yellow stain (turmeric?) off the handle. It didn't get the stain out, but it did take off the dark finish. Seems like something that shouldn't happen with a tool you're using to prepare food

 Big chunks or finely minced.  CLEAN-UP It is best to use a utility brush for cleanup---you don't want to touch the cutting surface with your finger since you'll cut your fingers. You don't want to touch the cutting surface with, say, a fork, because that would damage the cutting surface.  AS A GIFT If you are a cook, or there is a cook in your life, a Microplane zester or grater is the best $15 gift you can get or give

 TheZyliss Food Chopper, White is the ideal tool for mincing garlic. The longer you chop, the smaller the pieces, so you have full control. Big chunks or finely minced.  CLEAN-UP It is best to use a utility brush for cleanup---you don't want to touch the cutting surface with your finger since you'll cut your fingers

There comes a time in the life of any preparer of meals be it a gourmet chef or home cook when one wants to buy the best kitchen tools they can afford. Sure we can zest some orange peel off with a box grater and grate that ginger, chocolate and parmesan cheeses with the same box grater's oversized holes, and use the resulting chunky bits in our food. Will there be a difference in the taste of the dish? Some would say no, and some would beg to differ. I believe it's a matter of knowing when we are using the best tools for the job, and this Premium Microplane zester/grater IS the best tool
