This Microplane grabbed the top spot thanks to its great performance and its soft, grippy rubber handle that was slightly more comfortable and secure than that of our old winner. Otherwise, their grating surfaces are identical, so they both shredded cheese, zested lemons, and grated nutmeg, garlic, and ginger with ease. The Premium Classic came sharp, stayed sharp, and looked as good as new after testing. We do wish it had a wider surface so it didn’t form a trench in our cheese while grating, but it’s still the best option out there.

With a large area of sharp etched holes, our favorite rasp-style grater got the job of grating ginger done—just somewhat more slowly and a touch more wastefully than our top models. Its long, narrow shape was less ideal for handling bigger pieces of ginger and forced us to aim more carefully when grating. It was also harder to clean, since its curved edges trapped pockets of puree underneath.

New design a mixed blessing

 It didn't get the stain out, but it did take off the dark finish. Seems like something that shouldn't happen with a tool you're using to prepare food. I'll be rubbing the rest of it off.  To the Microplane product team: Are you testing all the materials and finishes on your product? Why even bother with this dark metal finish, plain metal would be fine

Nice blade, but finish on metal rubs off with only baking soda

Transforms my use of citrus and hard cheeses in the kitchen. Far easier to utilize than my old box grater for fine shredding tasks and zesting. Relatively easy to clean, as well.

Does what it says on the box, and does it well.

This thing is so good at what it does. Anytime I'm making a cheese sauce, I reach for this grater. It shreds cheese so finely that it melts easily into the sauce and onto pasta. I held off on buying one for so long because I thought they were just a tad too expensive, but having used this now vs my old micro grater, there is no contest

 The little rubber feet and the the handle make it very easy to use as well - no sliding around and comfortable to grip. I can see how this will also be great for grating cheese and chocolate. This is replacing my other two zesters that required more dexterity and force to use.

Bought this to zest lemons and love it. So easy to use and makes beautiful zest with no pith coming through. Super sharp so zesting is almost effortless. I love the plastic cover for storage

I use this so often it's nuts!

Not gonna lie, i do get a little scared of slicing myself on this guy, it's real sharp, but it's always a dream to use. It goes through the dishwasher just fine, and still cuts like it did right out of the box. I kept the plastic shipping cover to put back on it when I store it in a drawer to prevent myself from getting cut on it while digging around for things.
