Looking for some suggestions on how to "sound proof" but still look aesthetically pleasing. Here's the situation... my partner and i just purchased our first home, it's a cute little 1 bedroom bungalow. The living room and bedroom share a wall which must be thin. We enjoy different things, for example i love going to bed early and getting a good nights sleep, and he enjoys staying up late playing video games with friends (using a mic and headphones) the problem is i can hear everything he says while talking to friends in the mic.

I really want him to be able to do what he loves in his own home, and i in turn want to be able to do what i love (sleep with out ear plugs).

With out tearing down the wall and using a better "sound proofing" insulation are there any suggestions on how to absorb some sound in the living room with out having to resort to giant sound absorbers on the walls?

I was pondering the idea of possibly creating hidden sound absorbers by getting large canvas prints and putting foam pads in the back of the canvas, not sure if this will work?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!

Ps. Tried weather stripping the bedroom door, no dice.

sound proofing suggestions

 as much as I would have loved to have the same as what I already own. I couldn't go with the new replacement.

Not like they used to be.

So my girlfriend is a very light sleeper and sometimes she can't sleep when I'm playing games with friends and laughing or just talking a bit louder when I have a headset on.

This happens rarely in our current flat, but it does happen sometimes. Since we might move soon, I want to make sure that if the new flat is "clairaudient" we can take measures to prevent my voice from leaving the room in her direction as best as possible.

In our current situation I'm speaking directly in her direction and there are 2 doors close by which I guess could make a difference. But there are 2 walls separating us.

In the new flat there would only be 1 wall between us but I'd be talking in the opposite direction and the general distance is bigger.

We sadly don't know currently what the walls are made of, but would there be an easy way to make my voice not leave the room? Could these foam panels work in this case, even if they are not the most beautiful?

A few things I should clarify:

<li>We only live for rent right now and if we potentially move, we&#39;ll also only live for rent, so any major changes aren&#39;t the best options. </li>
<li>I will obviously try to talk more quiet, sometimes it&#39;s just hard because you don&#39;t realize how loud you really are with headphones on.</li>
<li>We&#39;ll try out the white noise approach, usually my gf needs it basically silent to fall asleep, but maybe if she gets used to it, it could be a nice solution.</li>
<li>Getting a new gf is not an option.</li>

Ehh- if you are good with replacing every 6 months

 It works the same way for us big kids.. AKA- adults, who don’t sleep as heavy as a log.  This DOHM Yoga sleep, white noise machine gets a 4

The media could not be loaded. I use this white noise machine, without fail, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, without any issues. I also use it sometimes during the day to do computer work, when my kids are home from school, and I need to help tune them out a bit so I can concentrate.  This has been going strong daily since July, and it hasn’t failed me yet, and I hear no rattling or ‘off’ sounds of any kind, like many reviewers have complained about on here

 Again, not a deal breaker for me, just saying. This unit MUST be plugged into the wall.  3) the price seems a bit high.  I think $45 is a bit steep for a machine that only has one sound, BUT a good night’s sleep for you or your child, is pretty darn priceless, so again, just making note of it, overall, not complaining much- just saying

I've slept significantly better since getting this particular white noise machine. As an apartment dweller who has loud neighbors and thin walls and ceilings, I'm also able to reduce most of the sound coming from the neighbor by filling my bedroom with the steady, soothing sounds of the Dohm. This device is also great for anyone who has Anxiety that's triggered by sudden loud noises. With the Dohm on, I'm no longer jumpy!
