Help me pick out the headphones

25 inch adapter and a USB-C to A adapter in the package. Inside, you get 40mm beryllium coated drivers that the brand claims is tuned to the Harman curve. I'm not going to question that because, you know, Mark Levinson is owned by Harman and the headphones do sound great. Moving on, there is a Mark Levinson Headphones Companion app, although it's quite bare-boned

 Microphone quality is pretty okay too. I'll say that they're perfectly fine to take work calls with and in quieter environments, they work great. But we now come to sound quality and I really enjoy listening to music with these. Keep in mind that I'm testing with MQA files off-title and streaming through LDAC, so your experience will definitely vary

 As for the ANC, it works pretty well. It's not on the same level as, you know, the Sony WH-1000XM4 and other top-tier ANC headphones, but these do well enough to block out really almost everything and I wouldn't mind having these on the flight. Microphone quality is pretty okay too. I'll say that they're perfectly fine to take work calls with and in quieter environments, they work great

I like a little bass but if I can get a good balanced sound I will be equally happy. My preferred music genres vary wildly. While my core roots remain in adoration of classic jazz like Coltrane and Getz, I've also been known to blast some deep bass like Rain Radio, Eddie, and Swedish House Mafia. Classical, Opera, Pop and Disco are all also in rotation.

ANC would be great, but not a deal breaker for the right headphones. Build quality is quite important as I have a larger than average head and have never owned headphones with a plastic band that haven't broken after 3-6 months. So a metal band is a heavy preference, or at minimum a very sturdy and proven build.

I was considering the Sony WH-1000XM4 but I keep seeing warnings that they aren't audiophile quality sound, just good. I'm going for better, if available.

 But there is a Mark Levinson app where you can adjust the bass, and you can either bump it up a little bit or take it down. So in the app it's called the Bass Contour Adjustments, and you can adjust it accordingly and hit that mark that more fits your listening preference. So it has built-in adjustable noise-canceling. It actually uses a built-in four-mic system to read the room and then kind of adjust itself in real time, like on the fly, make sure it accounts for every external sounds and noises you hear around you

 So it should cover most long-distance trips there. So when you get to your destination, you're at the airport, you need a quick recharge. Just 15 minutes of recharging gives you six hours of listening. So that is the Mark Levinson number 5909 wireless noise-canceling headphones

 Beryllium is a very low-mass, rigid material that has great damping characteristics, so low distortion across all frequencies, that high-grade sound so that it can deliver that targeted harmonium curve that most people prefer. And it's interesting because, you know, there are obviously other Bluetooth headphones. You can plug them into headphones, listen passively, and you can hear sound, and you can hear pretty good sound, but it's not as if that's a feature of the headphone. In this case, they've included two sizes of listening cables, 13-foot cable

 And I tried all three settings within the app. And I have to say that each one sounded really good. Even when I wanted more bass and exaggerated the bass, it was still tight and clean. It was never boomy, but it did add tremendous weight to the music

 The vocals were like right between the eyes as I listened, but it was airy, sweet treble, beautiful silky mids and the bass is customizable with the Mark Levenson app. You can kind of make it more anemic. You can make it neutral. You can boost the bass

 And I was just gonna leave it and go with it, but I decided to finish the video correctly as I had planned. So the Mark Levinson 5909s are really a fantastic headphone. They sound as good as some of the higher end plug-in to an amp and DAC headphones I've heard, though not quite. They're not as open, they're not as spacious

 It's transparent. You'll actually able to hear a sound stage going on within your head and you will be able to hear imaging with what appears to be within your head, right? It's pretty crazy when you put on a set of headphones and a lot of high end headphones do this trick very well. It's almost like you're listening to a set of speakers in a very intimate way, right? Now with the Mark Levenson, you get a little bit of that sound stage. You do get some imaging

Today I talk about the new Mark Levinson No 5909 Headphones. I compare these new $999 offerings from Mark Levinson to my 1 1/2 year old Bose 700 Noise Canceling headphones. 

While my Bose have served me well, I now use the Levinson No 5909. For my large ears the larger ear cups of the ML fit me better. The noise canceling is equal but the sound quality and materials are top notch with the Levinson. The Bose are sleeker for sure, and IMO look more handsome but the 5909 brings better performance.
