2/25/22 UPDATE: I'm deducting a couple stars because we're having more issues with vibration noise from the filter unit. Disassembled and cleaned out the impeller (which looked fine), but it will still occasionally get pretty loud. I had to wedge a little rubber gasket between the intake tube and the plastic overhang that dumps water back into the tank because they were rattling against each other. Also had to stick a little pad under the back cover which was similarly rattling

 Per the aquarium instructions, we filled it with water and placed it next to the basement drain for a couple days to test for leaks--no problems. Then we set up the filter, got our decorations, and bought 3 white cloud mountain minnows to start (not realizing until afterwards it is best to "cycle" and establish your tank before getting fish). I have been diligent on checking water parameters, doing regular water changes, and adding SeaChem Prime to protect the fish from ammonia spikes until it is established. We lost one fish after only a few days, but then added 3 more and right now have 5 white clouds for over a month that seem to be doing well

 A simple fix is a dollar shop silicone coaster, cut to fit the contact line between the hanging filter and the tank to isolate the vibration. As well, cut the same silicone pad and roll it up to upright the filter against the tank instead of using the adjustable round tab it comes with. That can improve the vibration issue. Marina's engineer could create that 1 cent piece of silicone, whereby the filter would then be made near silent

Hard to find a better tank kit, at any price

but I wouldn't have known to look for them when ordering this tank so I feel as though it's been great for a novice like me

Good for a Novice

 I taped a piece of plastic over the feeding hole, but that can't be done over the filter opening. You'll want to be careful nothing will fall in, and also that you keep the tank clean - otherwise you'll smell a fish tank-smell when you walk by. The glass is nice and clear, and no distortion. I also think the filter installation instructions could have been more clear

 However, be aware that there is no flap over the feeding hole in the hood, and the opening where the external filter parts enter the tank is uncovered. (picture attached).  Filter works very well, but be aware there are 3 pieces that need to be replaced-bio clear, bio carb, and sponge filters. The replacements are reasonably priced, but good to know ahead of buying. The filter is very quiet when water is full-about an inch below top of tank. It will get louder as water evaporates and water has farther to fall
