This kit gives you direct exposure to commonplace components in industrial robots and is still user-friendly in a way that's approachable for a total novice. The step-by-step 3D instructions are easy to follow, with the app providing gamified lessons once you have the mBot built. It also comes pre-programmed with three different operating modes, allowing you to hit the ground running the moment you finish building it. 
However, the mBot is a little less user-friendly and requires more dexterity to assemble than Legos or other snap-together plastic parts because it uses standard metric machine screws. Some of the more intricate aspects of the assembly will likely necessitate the assistance of an adult. We wish this set included a pair of needle-nose pliers. Although you can cover quite a lot of ground with just its stock configuration, it's a bit more challenging to customize your mBot without purchasing additional components. We think the mBot is a great choice if your kids are already doing Lego robotics at school and want a change of pace, or if you're seeking a kit that can supply a much broader base of understanding in mechatronics &mdash; provided you don't mind a slightly steeper learning curve and purchasing some add-on components.

Not for kids or even non-technical adults

I purchased this mBot this summer for my 5-year old son who is really into robots. The out-of-the-box functionality with the remote was fine, but we have had many issues when attempting to program the mBot using mBlock. First, there was an issue where whenever we attempted to upload code to the mBot it would malfunction and cause the remote to stop working entirely. This required reinstalling the firmware each time to restore the remote's function

Multiple software/hardware issues

 The robot can be used immediately once assembled using the remote control. It can also be coded and used with bluetooth technology through a smart phone or tablet. I have two qualms with the product. First, it would have been nice if the required batteries were listed more visibly in the listing

The MakeBlock mBot Robot Kit is really a great product. What a wonderful early introduction to robotics and coding. The instructions were clear. Our 9yo assembled it mostly on his own

Very good robotics car. There is even an app which will give kids problems to solve. But I think the challenges are too easy for 6-7 year old. My almost 7 year kid was able to program and complete all the challenge’s in just 2 days of weekend

The Grandson enjoyed the assembly process following the step by step drawings. He had fun with the simple features. His parents did not like the need for an email account for him to access and learn the programming.
