Old AR Turntable - Audio Output Mystery

I originally went for a Rega 2 in 1993 and did a sound comparison and the Linn Basik had the edge for me. I was wanting to recently change to a new Turntable, but decided to stick with the Linn Basik and upgrade it by various means.

I recently asked on this group about which tonearm I should get to replace my old and broken rb250. After some research I have now decided to get a new turntable. The choice I have given myself is a new Rega planar 3 £660 or a secondhand Linn Axis with a basil plus tonearm and AT cart. (Although I will still have my nearly new Ortofon 2m red)

Which would you choose?

I am looking for the best turntable at a reasonable price to get me through the next 5-10 years so I can pass it down and get my phono-dedicated system them. These will be fed through a Thorens MM 008 to a Marantz SR8001.
