The 7 Best Laptops - Spring 2022
The port selection is good and includes two USB-Cs with Thunderbolt 4 support, a USB-A, and a headphone jack. The battery lasts about 9 hours of light use, which is just barely enough to get through a typical 8-hour day, though you may have to plug it in if you perform more demanding tasks.

But the high pitched electric noise while plugged in and the fans are at Level 1 was maddening. (Just to note Lenovo is shipping the laptop with Level 1 BIOS setting to keep the fans spinning at all times so it can conceal an even worse coil whine). At higher fan levels, e.g. at Level 2 BIOS setting the fans do become annoying but the electric whine is gone.
Yoga 9i 15UHD - The New Daily Driver!
Just upgraded to this after 4 years (2 fine, 2 torturous) with a gen 1 Microsoft Surface Laptop (i5 2core 4thread 4gb ram). That thing was slow as balls for day to day light tasks, and running bitdefender in the background absolutely killed it from a performance point of view to a degree that it was inoperable. The only thing I’ll miss about the Surface Laptop is the battery life, the 3:2 ratio, and perhaps it’s more quiet fans. But this yoga 9i 15 blows it out of the park when it comes to performance.

I will use it mostly for programming. So far I've been working on ThinkPad with i7 7700HQ which is worse than any of these processors in both SC and MC performance and didn't feel limited, so I suspect even 4500u would be okay (not sure how power-hungry my new project would be though), but I also want to future-proof a bit if it wouldn't mean compromising in other areas. Reasons for Yoga are:. \- slightly better build quality (subjective, based on 5 min test at the store).

Looking for a convertible that works well w/ Linux
I have Lenovo Yoga convertible running Fedora 36 Silverblue with Gnome. works well.
Is this worth $900 for college and very little gaming? Need to run at least 4-5 years.
I've also just had so many inconveniences with it. For example, throughout my three semesters of online learning, it was a gamble if the camera would even turn on or not. Im a pretty tech savvy person, so I tried everything, including reinstalling drivers and fiddling with options in Vantage, Windows Security, Zoom, etc. All of these awful quirks make me wish I hadn't bought a 2-in-1, or at least a 2-in-1 by Lenovo.

Currently looking at Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (9310), Lenovo Yoga 9i (14-Inch), or HP Spectre X360 14

Early Graphics Glitches
This computer is generally really great. The display is crystal clear, the keyboard is responsive, it's light & portable, the sound is impressive for its size, and the processor/memory is able to keep up with my illustration apps and some light gaming. I have two minor issues and a major one. The fi...
