The C1s are excellent, but I do not necessarily recommend them for somebody who has mostly carpet. To get anything that would be excellent on carpet from Miele, you would need to pay more than your maximum price. I typically recommend the C1 Turbo for somebody who has mostly hard floors and a few rugs or carpeted spaces.

I would not get a Shark by any means. The main issues with them is that they do not have a good cyclonic separator in them which makes the filters get dirty very quickly, the parts are cheap and frequently break, they do not work well, their warranty is bogus, and so forth. I have used that exact Navigator and it was so frustrating because the hose is short and tight and the unit is very top-heavy, causing it to fall every five seconds. On top of that, the hoses are notorious for tearing and they commonly have electronics failures

 Like Dyson, they are all marketing. Shark is the Nissan of vacuum cleaners while Dyson is the BMW of vacuum cleaners (not a good thing).

 In fact, it has the most suction at the cleaner head of any vacuum cleaner that I have seen. It is a heavier machine (20 pounds--not bad) and does not have the novelty of showing the dirt in a clear bin, but it does have an optical dirt sensor that sees when dirt is going into the machine. The [31140]([URL REMOVED] is a slightly cheaper and less powerful version if you think the 31150 is too much, but it does not have the dirt sensor.

A noob tries to buy a nice vacuum for his gf and get SUCKED in: a cry for help

 So I took the wiring harness apart, cut the ribbon, notched it and abraded the end to expose the metal connections. I reinserted it into the clip and secured it with copious amounts of tape, enough to fortify the inevitable bend that occurs. Put it back together and what do I get? VOILA! A vacuum again! Should this have happened? No. In the amount of time I have owned this unit, they should have at least tested a unit twice as long (I do for my products) but here’s a TIP to prevent this problem for anybody considering this unit

 Out of curiosity, considering the old one is shot, I took apart the wand and discovered the problem. It used to be that the power cord was on the outside of a tube that never extended or retracted. Now, the extendable wand has its wiring inside, in the form of a ribbon wire, that when repeatedly extended and retracted (as much as one can in the 4 months we have had it using it occasionally) the wire snaps at the one connection end. This is a serious design flaw

 This fix lasted 15 minutes, as shortly thereafter it stopped working altogether. I contacted Kenmore, and they’re sending a replacement vacuum ( in 7-10 days, coupled with the time it took to get an RMA we are talking 2 weeks) . Out of curiosity, considering the old one is shot, I took apart the wand and discovered the problem. It used to be that the power cord was on the outside of a tube that never extended or retracted

 DO NOT EXTEND AND RETRACT THE WAND OFTEN. Try to find a height that works and stick with it. Considering what I discovered inside the wand, it should be fine for decades if you don’t put it though a lot of movement.

Has a serious design flaw (bought 9/15/18) ***UPDATED 1/31/19***

The Hoover UH30600 is a pretty good unit, but you can do better for your price range. Same thing with the UH30301, which is almost the same unit just with minor differences like not having the "Max" style head. Again, both are very decent and perform well, but I typically recommend them when somebody cannot afford something above $200 or so. They have a common failure point with the back wheels too

The Miele C2 Electro+ is an excellent unit if you can afford it. It is an excellent machine for about everything and will last a long time.

 If you were considering the Hoover uprights, then you should be fine with the Kenmore. The $300 price tag is, if anything, quite low for the cleaning performance and build quality that you get. I may be excommunicated for saying this, but it actually moves significantly more air and has a lot more suction at the cleaner head than the C2 produces at the power nozzle.

At this point I&#39;m not really sure what the differences are and which one of these is an overkill purchase vs a really good bang for my buck so any help would be awesome.

2021 Recommendations for Hardwood and Carpet

 The swivel-head, though, does not allow me any control: specifically, I used to be able to lift the old head off the floor if I needed to suck up a small stone; or I could go from vacuuming the concrete floors, to the top of my dog beds, to my sofa without changing heads. The swivel head is NOT good on the dog beds, the sofa, or for picking up little things other than dust and hair. It takes me SO LONG to vacuum the house now. Additionally, it takes some concerted effort to switch to the electric carpet attachment

 The way the carpet head attaches is just AWFUL. It takes me sooooooo long to vacuum now and this vacuum design is TERRIBLE.

 We have concrete floors, live in the desert, have hairy dogs. The non-swivel head on our previous models allowed me to be in charge of the vacuuming process. The swivel-head, though, does not allow me any control: specifically, I used to be able to lift the old head off the floor if I needed to suck up a small stone; or I could go from vacuuming the concrete floors, to the top of my dog beds, to my sofa without changing heads. The swivel head is NOT good on the dog beds, the sofa, or for picking up little things other than dust and hair

Great suction, but.....

I voted for the Miele C2 Electro+ because it was the best on the list but sticking to your budget is good too. Kenmore canister vacuums are not as good as Miele but they're one half to one third the price so they're also a good pick. If you do decide to get the Miele be sure to check the used ones from Amazon warehouse, some of the damaged box or cosmetically damaged returns could save you some bucks. Lastly be sure to visit your local Miele and Sebo (K3 or E3) stores they might be able to match or beat some deals depending on their stock

 I was able to follow the instructions for putting it together. Overall it seems intuitive to use and has excellent suction, especially on rugs and carpet. The switch for hardwood, carpet and power on the handle work as intended but seem flimsy. It’s easy to hit the carpet setting on hardwood

 The dust bin was messy and hard to empty. I looked for a vacuum for quite a while and really wanted a cordless stick. It seemed that there were issues with them, including short battery times and questionable suction power. I then looked at various bagged and bagless uprights and bagged canisters

However, it seems that all of the vacuums that fit into that category are from Sebo and Miele, and are $700 or above, just a bit out of my price range. My upmost limit is $600. I've found the Kenmore Elite Pet Friendly UltraPlush 81714 to be recommended by Consumer reports, though I can't confirm that the nozzle is electric. Is this a good choice (if it is) and are there any other recommendations or experiences with great vacuums between 450 - 600 that others on the board have? I would greatly appreciate it

Hello everyone. My first time posting here so I apologize for any stupidity, as I know very little about vacuums. After doing the recommended research on the pinned posts, it's clear I need a canister with an electric nozzle, as my home is a mix of tiled floors and a Persian carpet in every room (except the kitchen of course). 

 I've found the Kenmore Elite Pet Friendly UltraPlush 81714 to be recommended by Consumer reports, though I can't confirm that the nozzle is electric. Is this a good choice (if it is) and are there any other recommendations or experiences with great vacuums between 450 - 600 that others on the board have? I would greatly appreciate it.

It's okay

 We just got it, the second one, identical, i took a brush and used it with old vacuum, it works awesome so far! So a[ardently, brash alone was a problem, we should start from replacing it, instead of a handle. We used the first one for one year in total, even though with constant troubles, but it is so cheap, that i thought to give it another chance, maybe the other one will last longer, if not- i will look for something else, because buying it once a year will be costly overtime. Update: I noticed that the first vacuum (exactly identical 200 series Kenmore) had telescopic expandable pipe, this new one, ordered in 2019, does not, and it is so short that with my height on 5’1” I can not use it! It’s too inconvenient. The other issue with new vacuum: bare floor attachment has too thin brush, which is too soft, like it is not even there, so entire brush just sucked to floor, that you can’t even move it around! Same about upholstery brush -too flimsy

 We started having problems after two months. We have used it very moderately: I clean one tiny (tile floor) apartment 360 sf with one 4’x5’ rug, about twice a week; and once in two months i clean about 500sf of low carpet in the covered lanai. That's it! First, the hose broke so we had to duck tape it, then there appeared a major problem with brush: it stoped self propelling. Then soon it started working intermittently

Low quality which got even worse

 I have some floor attachments, brushes, and long-reach wands that fit other vacuums, but they won't work with this Kenmore because of it's design. I was able to fashion an adapter that gets around this problem, but there's some risk the adapter may damage the hose. Kenmore should make their vacuums to use standard attachments, so customers don't lose their investment in specialized attachments.  Third, the only attachment with a brush for effectively vacuuming bare floors is only 9 inches wide instead of the standard 14 inch width of most floor attachments
