IKEA Malm

Hello, I just wanted to give you guys a review of the Malm. M-A-L-M from Ikea and this is also a very comfortable Ikea mattress we got as you can see....

I've only ever ordered one thing online from IKEA (the MALM bed) and luckily it came complete and pretty quickly, but after seeing all the posts about IKEA's terrible shipping and customer service, I'll be making all my purchases in store from now on.

I have 2 ikeas about 6 hours away in each direction (one is 6 east and the other is 6 west). For our double Malm bed frame with under bed storage, we ordered online and picked it up at the pick up point we have a truck but i wouldn't feel safe making the 6 hour drive since it stuck out of the box with the tailgate down. Meanwhile for the baby change table we want to get my MIL lives 2 hours away from one of the ikeas and is going to pick it up for us and bring it down when she come to see baby after birth. If we were going to order something big like cabinets or appliances I'd spend the extra for delivery to our home.

I also wanted to try the Nordli or helmer but alas they were nowhere to be found too. I opted for malm as a last resort but honestly I’m so happy with it. I have a bad back and the malm is high enough that I don’t need to lean over my desk. All of the other drawers would have been entirely too low for me.

I used to have my college setup in my bedroom. It was super convenient to have my coffee stuff nearby while studying. An Ikea Malm dresser was used to hold everything.

They're not shipping to my zip or anyone near me (NE Ohio) either, and haven't been for a few weeks. I drove to the Columbus store this weekend and the shelves were empty in a lot of the store. All of the lighting choices I wanted were out, the entire bed aisle in the warehouse was gone (no beds except MALM and who wants MALM lol) It was weird, in my thirty years of shopping IKEA, I've never seen it like this.

- IKEA Malm dresser. I’ve seen the larger ones on here. The smaller version is a bit taller but my husband and I are tall so it’s fine for us, and having the space is helpful.

As others have said it’s the Malm and this particular one is no longer sold (in the US at least) due to the many accidental death lawsuits. That said, you might be able to find one on your local Craigslist / OfferUp. Also worth mentioning that the top folds up to reveal a mirror with a felted cubby for jewelry, etc. It’s a cool piece of furniture.

If you use those higher holes, you'll need to raise the sides of the bed to the same level, but I recall the Malm allows for a high or low base. Either way, you should look to reinforce the main middle beam with additional support underneath.

As a fellow cat butler and diy enthusiast, I applaud your work, especially the tiling job! I converted an IKEA coffee table and recently an IKEA MALM dresser into litter boxes, works great for small places ☺️
