[NPD x2] EAE Halberd & Strymon Iridium

It was pretty much everything I was looking for, recently posted about wanting a Tweed overdrive and mainly looking at the Catalinbread Formula 55, many users recommended the halberd, and after talking to Mr. EAE himself about the capabilities of the Halberd I went for it. The clarity, yet blown out low end is really fun and what I was looking for. Now with the SSBS Fuck, Hudson Broadcast I pretty much have my own Tweed amp whizzer which is my favourite gain sound.

Board update - April 2021 (x3 additions and impressions)

Hudson Broadcast: had this for just under a week now and still taking it through its paces but so far I’m quite impressed. My first experience with a pre-amp pedal and was tossing between this and the Benson preamp but liked the idea of dual switches so the Broadcast won. I’m running it at 18v and using it as a clean boost at the start of my chain (the RYRA Klone was originally filling this duty but I’m enjoying having it further down the chain as either a solo boost or running it at higher gain).

What are some DIFFERENT-sounding overdrives?

While we could debate what is overdrive and what is not, I’d put the Hudson Broadcast in the firmly unique overdrive category. It can sound like other things if you want it to, but it’s quite distinct, I think.

I've achieved similar tones using my old TEAC Two Track but would love to have something in within the same realm in pedal format. Not rlly a fan of what I've heard from the JHS Colorbox demos, and while the Hudson Broadcast is I guess marketed to be that type of sound, it's definitely a different color of it (which is rlly rlly cool but still not what I'm looking for). I've also read up a lot on the SSBS mini and wasn't too impressed by the demos ive heard.

Mathrock / post hardcore board

Hudson Broadcast (Regent Sound version): one of few I bought new. Went looking for a pedal that would work as an always on to give me a sort of broken clean sound. Shot out a few pedals and this one won. This version ramps the voltage up to 24v and as a result, the highest headroom option using the toggle switch with a little gain dialed in is perfect for me.

Soft-Medium OD Pedals?

I’m a huge fan of the Hudson broadcast. I have the single foot switch version which is cheaper (has a toggle for low/high gain instead of dual foot switches). I primarily use low to medium gain with it and it’s lovely. Has a really broad tonal range from really bottom heavy to very thin.

What drive pedals do you guys use to liven up a solid state amp?

I use a Crowther Hot Cake, and it does well, but I'm also looking at getting a Benson Preamp for exactly this reason. That one and the Hudson Broadcast are popular around here for that purpose.
