Is a cycling glove any good at keeping fingers warm against head winds?
I use ski mits with a lobster claw fingers when it is really cold. Something like the Hestra Leather Fall Line 3-Finger Gloves works like a charm, stores in your back pocket and double up for skiing or walking casually in cold weather too.

Winter gloves recommendations
I have tried many of them mostly from Amazon for hiking and skiing and I can tell you that these three were better than others when you look at warmth, dexterity and price. Also you might take into consideration if they are waterproof or not and if you can take out lining and good thing is if they are touchscreen compatible. Hestra Leather Fall Line – Short - if you are looking for leather gloves they are great and dexterity is really awesome so they are really versatile.

Not waterproof, hardly even water resistant
Pros: Extremely dextrous, very soft leather, very stylish
Cons: These gloves are excellent, unless you get snow on them... Then they get soaked almost instantly. I can understand how these gloves are great work gloves if you're just doing 'work' in extreme cold conditions, but marketing them as ski...
