I went to a highly reputable ski shop in the SLC area and really trusted the employee who sold them to me. When I got home, I started doing research and learned that the Head Wild Joy is an expert-level ski.

I own a pair of Head Super Joy. Very light skis but with good stifness (I'm petite and light, so all good for me). Not an agressive skier, but I like a little speed at times and fun steeps. Skis are short so they have a turn radius of 10 m

My girlfriend is in the market for new skis. We ski mainly on the east coast in NY and VT with an annual trip out west (Big Sky this year). She is a strong intermediate skier who mainly likes blue and black groomers. Any brands/ski types people would recommend to look into? TIA!

New Ski Recommendations

What's up gang, doing some leg-work for my girlfriend on new skis for this season. Right now, she's skiing some carving Volkls that are woefully short for her.

She's an improving intermediate. 80% groomed as of now but hoping to get better. 15-25 days penciled in. Mostly east coast but likely 4-5 days west each year. She wants something she can grow into.

The all-mountain category is pretty crowded. She basically wants something that can hold on hard-pack/icy east coast groomers but isn't going to get totally eaten in fresh snow.

Here's what I've looked at:

Atomic Maven 86c  
Blizzard Black Pearl 82  
Nordica Santa Ana 84  
Elan Ripstick 88  
Line Pandora 84  
Black Crows Vertis Birdie

Looking at last years' models to save some $$$. They all sorta blend together after a certain amount of research, but the general idea seems to be that the Black Pearl, Pandora, &amp; Birdie trend towards groomer performance whereas the Ripstick &amp; Maven will be a bit more playful.

I personally am biased towards the lighter/more playful skis, but she's sticking to groomers much more than I. That said, I don't think she's aggressive enough to push a more playful ski to where it starts chattering on groomers.

Any thoughts/comments/experience? The Ripstick is the leader in the clubhouse for me, but I worry about its hard-pack performance.

Did I get finessed by my ski shop (women skis)?

I wish I could get new skis. But mine are already wonderful (Head Super Joy) and only 3 years old! Have fun zipping down the slopes.

Mom got new skis. Can’t wait to wiggle these noodles around this winter.
