We had some beans from another brand that was pretty good but we weren't as crazy about, so we grinded some of those in our new electric grinder, as the manual states the burr needs to be seasoned a little. I wouldn’t get the hario skerton if you can help it. Mine takes forever to grind and after 2 years or so I upgraded to a Baratza because the time to grind was off putting. I think I would have been better off getting a slightly fancier manual grinder to start with but I kept coming across the skerton in threads on Reddit and that swayed my decision. For some reason now I only see people trashing the skerton.

I hesitated for a while because of the price, but overall I’m really happy to have invested in something that’ll last for years. The biggest difference I noticed is how fast and easy hand grinding is now. I don’t have to deal with a mini arm workout grinding coffee anymore. It’s been a welcome change not having the Skerton nut continually come loose and the grinder violently skipping when grinding.

Well I was reasonably satisfied with it for almost 2 years. And then yesterday the grinder got stuck on a bean or two in its craw somehow, and the handle wouldn't turn. If I were you, I'd skip the Hario Skerton and just get a nicer grinder upfront. It will save you money from buying twice, and you'll enjoy your coffee more and have an easier grinding experience for longer. It is the most important part of your coffee setup, get something you will be happy with. I bought a Lido ET 5 years ago as my first grinder, and it's still going strong, although I did also get an Aergrind later for travel.
