if your skin is dry or sensitive you might prefer chemical exfoliation, or none at all - be careful not to overexfoliate and damage your moisture barrier. **brightening** is the step i do once ive settled the rest for an extra boost, my fav products are the hada labo shirojyun premium and kiku high moist (found it too sticky and moisturizing to be my main hydrating toner, but it's hella cheap and pretty brightening), the melano cc essence is pretty good too.

im also quite partial to brightening products to keep my skin from tanning too much (my face tans more easily than my body and it looks weird af), my favs are the hada labo shirojyun premium and the kiku high moist (i found the latter wasn't hydrating enough, i had to layer a lot to get enough hydration which made it heavy and sticky, so i prefer it just for brightening), and the melano cc essence is not bad as well. but brightening comes secondary to hydration for me!.
