Looking for a light but reliable beard trimmer. I use a Wahl Magic Clip at home typically with a #1 (3mm) guard to keep a scruffy beard and #3 or #4 guard for sideburns.

Ideally would be:

- lithium charged/cordless so I can just charge it once for a 2-3 week trip and not bring a charger
- will last a long time
- sub $50 otherwise I'd probably just bring my magic clip

Lightweight beard trimmers w/ #1 guard

  I'll keep using it to keep my goatee straight, but when it dies i'm not going to buy another one.

 When used without a comb, the trimmer can take a 9 o'clock shadow back down to a 5 o'clock shadow.  The cartridge attachment is meant to allow the trimmer to function as one of those vibrating handles for razor blades. It's a reasonable concept I guess, but I just don't use it for that. While the Fusion blade cartridge does provide a decent shave, I don't want to pay for refills, so that won't get used

 Looks like I'll have to reorder another Norelco and keep this one for reaching tight spots- something the Norelco didn't do too well.  UPDATE: I ordered this NorelcoPhilips Norelco Bodygroomer BG5025/49 - skin friendly, showerproof, back and body hair shaver and trimmer , which is an upgraded version of the one mentioned above, hopefully the battery charges faster and lasts longer than the original version.

 Edit/update: At this point all three of the combs have broken. The remaining two just inexplicably snapped into pieces while being removed. They don't appear to be sold as standalone items, so I would need to order an entire new trimmer to replace them. Not a great look

One of the attachments broke for seemingly no reason (no drops or any other physical jolts), so I'd advise caution with them, but this works well enough. The razor blade attachment is kind of useless (making the razor vibrate doesn't actually aid shaving in any way), but for fast facial hair shaving it works all right. It's very quick and easy to use even completely dry. I'm not wowed, but it's adequate

Decent enough

 The good news is that this shaver does a great job on the less sensitive areas as long as you take your time and give it time to clip the hairs. I almost returned it when it drew blood but was impressed with how well it trimmed the less sensitive areas. The razor attachment is a waste of time and an unnecessary additional expense. Better to use the #1 shield on this shaver and buy your favorite razor for the detailed work

This is my second styler. I like the versatility of having a trimmer and razor all in one in my travel bag. But the durability of the first one was questionable. Hoping this one lasts longer

 Other than that, I have no complaints!  Update November 2020: It's been about a year since I purchased my second one of these trimmers. Since I no longer submerge it in water, it's been doing great! It does go through a lot of batteries so it may be worth investing in rechargeable ones, but it's a little powerhouse! Occasionally (maybe once a month or so) it's "moody" and I need to press the power button a few times or open/close the battery compartment to get it to turn on. It may be that the case came slightly unscrewed and the battery stooped making contact or something, but it's minor and it always works again. I'm so glad I got this thing (especially after being in isolation for so long and needing something a bit more robust to handle my inch long leg hair)

I got this to help keep my beard edged nicely, though after a few uses I realized that it's useless for anyone whose beard grows quickly. The way the trimmer is designed allows the hair to quickly build up under the trimming edge itself, which blocks the trimmer very quickly. I have to dislodge the trimmed hair between 10-13 times during a typical shave. On top of that, its trimming ability is pretty weak in the first place, and I often have to make several passes over a region to get it to do its job (not to mention the short battery life, having to replace it once every 4-5 shaves)
