 So definitely go out today and try out a set of GHS boomers, tell them Gary Hoey sent you. All right. Thank you for your time, and I'll see you next time.

 But so much of the tone comes from your hands. When you're playing the guitar, so much of the sound actually comes out of your hands. And a lot of my heroes that I've met over the years, I've always said to them, how do you get your sound? And they say, well, it's all in your hands. It's all in your hands

 Don't be afraid to experiment with the sound. Because if you're doing something that's going to have a rock tone, then you want a string that's going to give you that squeal, where you're going to actually hit the harmonic and the harmonic's going to come out. And if you're playing a blues sound and you're doing something with a walking bass line where you want that, you know, you want your string to hold and keep its consistency. And consistency is another thing that I've discovered with GHS strings

 And that's something I discovered. When I started using boomers, I said, man, why is my guitar sound bigger when I'm using the same exact gauge that I used on another brand? It's because the core of the string is a thicker core, it's going to give you a stronger tone, and you're not going to be breaking strings if you are breaking strings. GHS Strings Overview

I am wanting to move up a gauge as the tension on the low C is still a bit too floppy for my taste so I have ordered a set of GHS boomers, 115-50 gauge. These strings seem to use the same 50 70 gauges for the G and D strings but the A and E strings are 95 and 115 instead of 90 and 110.

Hey all. I'm looking to buy some new strings for my P bass, and I was thinking of buying one set of roundwounds as backup and one set of new flatwounds to experiment and see which one I like best. I looked around on amazon and it appears that the cheapest flatwounds I could find cost around 45€ (53$ / 39£). I wanted to buy d'addario strings but could only find roundwounds for about 18€ (again, they were the cheapest among all the products), do they not make d'addario flatwounds? 

I bought some d'addario guitar strings some time ago but the average price was between 6 and 15€, so it was a lot cheaper than bass strings. I looked on other websites too and the pricing for bass strings was pretty much the same, and I haven't gone to a guitar store yet so I can't really compare the prices there. 

Are flatwounds, and bass strings in general, actually that much more expensive, or am I just looking in the wrong place?

Also, could you suggest some convenient brands of strings? I'm not at a level where I can tell the difference between brands, so good quality would be enough for me.

How much do you usually pay for new strings?

Good basic guitar strings

 I think you might really enjoy DR Nickel Lo-Riders (specifically set NMH5-130) or GHS Boomers (set 5M-DYB.) Both have high tension but retain some flexibility, and are musical and fun to play.

I used to use the D'Addario [EXL 170-5](https://www.daddario.com/products/guitar/bass-guitar/xl-nickel-bass/exl170-5-nickel-wound-5-string-bass-light-45-130-long-scale/) strings, but out of my store not having them, I opted for the [EXL 160-5](https://www.daddario.com/products/guitar/bass-guitar/xl-nickel-bass/exl160-5-nickel-wound-5-string-bass-medium-50-135-long-scale/) as they seemed around the same. I love how the low notes really sound good and bassy on my bass, but I do miss the brightness of the G (and D) strings that were on the 170's. Bass Strings

GHS Boomers were the first set of strings I bought when I started playing almost 20 years ago and they sound just as good now as they did back then. It is no wonder why so many world class musicians have used Boomers over the years. Great tone for the price and, like so many other reviewers commented on, the durability of these is great. I rarely ever break a Boomer and I tend to leave them on my guitar way too long but they still don't break

I will occasionally try other stings and find some that I like and a lot that I don't but I always know that I can count on GHS Boomer to deliver so that has sort of become my baseline string over the years and the one I measure the others against if that makes sense. Definitely worth spending a few bucks and trying if you have never played them before

These strings have been on this bass for a little while and they really haven't lost their edge. There are times where you want to have new strings every time you do a gig

I use GHS bass boomers. Specifically the flea signature set. They feel nice and are super bright. They go dead in a few months which is pretty short for bass string strings but their sound is perfect so it’s worth it for me

I'm currently running NYXLs on my Stingray 5er, I like the longevity of the tone and the note articulation for live shows without being overly bright.  


And I run Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats on my P bass for a great blend of vintage coolness and modern translation. Also the lighter tension helps my fingers on 4 hour gigs.

  That said, this sort of thing is a personal decision and depends on what sound and feel fits you best. But you're doing yourself a big disservice if you haven't dropped $5 to try these out. I haven't enjoyed any of the other lines of GHS strings so much, but like I said, for electric guitar Boomers are where it's at.
