So to attach that, put it on that little nozzle and pop it on. you get a nice snap and then to unlock it, you push that little orange piece towards you and then just pull off

First impression: Gardena ZoomMaxX sprinkler with metal step spike

UPDATE: leak was the result of o-ring displacement in the joint between the body and the base; i had never separated these two parts, the joint is threaded and easily loosened (pretty much has to be loosened for any flexibility in the aim); back up to three stars  UPDATE: developed a pinhole leak in the plastic body of the base after less than two months of regular use; down to two stars pending a test of Gardena's warranty service (i intend to ask to replace it with the older AquaZoom model)  ORIGINAL REVIEW: in short, i find the adjustments lacking compared to Gardena's AquaZoom models, but i do like the compactness and it is slightly better suited for watering very small spaces  i like Gardena's designs because i hate wasting water; i have worn out two Gardena AquaZoom 1977 sprinklers in 15 years, but the second of the two lasted about a third as long as the first; i thought the design of the ZoomMaxx may be improved so i bought it instead of another AquaZoom … now that watering season has kicked in i am impressed with how well it waters the corners of a rectangle, but i have immediately found some design flaws: the sprinkler oscillation cannot be adjusted away from the vertical, the maximum width of the spray is too narrow and the width is hard to adjust precisely; i'm also concerned to see in some reviews that the unit didn't last long  the oscillation is a big deal to me because i have many different spaces to water, and often have to water them from one side, sometimes from a couple of feet away from the planted area; if you think of the the ZoomMaxx oscillation like the hand of a clock, its range adjusts between 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock; the problem is the range must always include 12 o'clock, so if you are watering on one side you can water from 12:00 to 3:00 or even 12:00 to 1:00, but water will always be falling where the sprinkler is; aside from putting water where i don't want it, this also means i get sprinkled on while i'm adjusting — with the AquaZoom you can set the range from 1:00 or even 1:30 to 3:00 while you get the range and width adjusted, and then reset the oscillation and step back; this one feature alone is going to drive me back to the AquaZoom despite my qualms about its longevity  the other issues limit my ability to water precisely; the width doesn't go wide enough to water a long narrow bed from the long side; i have often used the Aquazoom to water beds about 15 x 4 feet; with the zoom max the width of the spray is more limited unless i crank up the pressure, at which point the narrowest range of oscillation will spray an area much more than 4 feet deep; my narrow areas have to be watered in two passes now  the width adjustment is also harder to fine tune than the AquaZoom; the rubber nozzles need even more encouragement to move into position than those on the AquaZoom, and the adjustment sliders have a very short throw, so it's difficult to get the right width;  for people who with less needs to fine tune the spray, this model should be very nice (if it turns out to be long-lasting); for those who want to water only where it's needed, and who have multiple differently-shaped garden spaces, i would recommend the AquaZoom instead

 If you've already adopted Gardena's connectors (they fit Melnor connectors in the U.S.), this will be a nice convenience. Otherwise, you'll have to screw the included snap-on connector onto your hose end each time you want to use this sprinkler

 Note that the width adjustment is stiff, so it can be hard to get it right (see the last point above).  Note: This sprinkler is designed for Gardena's snap-on connector system, which you're either going to love or hate. If you've already adopted Gardena's connectors (they fit Melnor connectors in the U.S

 - You can remove an end cap and daisy-chain this sprinkler with something else, if you're so inclined.  Cons: - The adjustments are somewhat complicated at first, though you can figure them out fairly quickly through trial and error. - You've got five adjustments to play with, so if you move the sprinkler around there's no way you're going to get the settings right on your first guess. If you can set these all appropriately without getting soaked in the process, you're a better waterer than I am

A Good Sprinkler for Small or Broken-up Yard

I have invested in the Gardena system. Not a ton, but after being disappointed with my Lowes purchases constantly breaking, I bought two of these sprinklers this spring. I liked them so much that i purchased a set of their proprietary hose attachments and a spray head as well. German engineering

 I will report on my progress.  Frustrating though, because her I am in the Fall with an aerated and seeded lawn and two BRAND NEW sprinklers and one is inoperable. Not the kind of reliability I was looking for.  Regarding Rain-barrel irrigation: I have a TurboRain pump which distributed the nearly 1000 gallons of water I collect from my 25x35 garage roof

 This sprinker was exceptional in that regard. The adjustability is excellent for efficient distribution of the water..

I have two.  One is broken after 5 months of use.  Also, notes on pumping water from rain barrel.

 This sprinkler has never been abused or mishandled. Adjusting the dials to any other width makes no difference. Up until this it has worked admirable. Better than Gardena’s more expensive model 34100 $58 sprinkler

 I clean out the ZoomMaxx's filter often. I have decided it is cheaper to spend 1/3 less on another brand since it will last at least half the time Gardena sprinklers last. I hate to fill up land fills but I cannot spend this much and get less. Why cannot anyone make a sprinkler to last more than a season or two?! I purchased this Gardena ZoomMaxx Sprinkler 363 days ago after all three of my Gardena 34100 sprinklers ($58 each!) started to not oscillate after just one summer

 I trust they will see the leak and replace the sprinkler with a new one. Great immediate response from Gardena. Service like it used to be. I will update more when I know more

NOT a good value over time

 That's really the only negative comments I can give it. The spray, like I said can cover a large area and does so evenly and efficiently. Adjusting how wide or how far to spray is easy and you can adjust the width on either side of the sprinkler separately as well as the distance for maximum flexibility. The timer is the best thing I ever purchased for watering my lawn

The timer allows for a timed duration or an infinite amount of time

 It's not cheap but if you're looking to enter a longer than single season relationship with your sprinkler - this has been a good purchase.
