 I like that it is about 3/16" thick but, you know, there are other knives with very good blades for far cheaper. The thing that really takes it down 2 or 2.5 stars is that the handle scales are crap.

I would recommend this blade if ESEE made a better handle for it. Go have a look at the K-Bar BK2 out-of-the-box handle. It's much better than this one.

To me this kind of thing with the great blade but crappy handle is really poor sportsmanship on the parts of the knife makers. It's like hawkers selling, "Hey! Look at this fine blade! Only $100+! Want one? Great! Thank you very much for your purchase! Oh, by the way, would you like a handle for that? Great! That will be another $35."

Excellent knife

My main problem was the sheath, the sheath came in dented and as a result, it was actually cutting into the handle. It was fist of all very difficult to pull out of the sheath and every time I did it took parts of the handle with it. I have enclosed some photos. The knife was pretty much stuck in the sheath and I feel like in an emergency situation, I would have to ask my attacker to give me a hand with trying to pull the knife out first

Terrible coating

Unfortunately this was the second ESEE knife which I bought through Amazon (Amazon fulfillment) which was not impressively sharp out of the box. I know that is not such a big issue to some, but it is to me since I do not wish to start pouring labor into a $130 right out of the box. I am not opposed to taking simple steps such as stropping and using some light oil but if I am in doubt about whether to keep or to return, I do not wish to use sharpening stones right out of the box! I test my knives giving them the simple paper cutting tasks plus cutting other types of paper such as wax paper and junk mail coupon type papers. I would like to see the blade to have a razor sharp edge out of the box by going through these types of paper without much effort

Tried the 6P after feeling let down by Ontario SK-5

 and it's thick. You can wack this this thing with all manners of other, harder things and I'm pretty sure it will come out on top. Whether you're skinning an animal, cutting down a tree or even digging a hole with it. I have no doubt that this thing will outlast you

 It's not magic - 3 words: high carbon steel. It holds an edge, it's simple to sharpen, sharpens to a razor's edge and can generally be found anywhere for a price that starts in the $15 range. What sets the ESEE apart from the $15 bucks is simple.

well made, but bring a truck, this thing weighs a ton.

 The shape of the blade is excellent for carving, whittling, cutting. Ive seen videos of batoning and it handles that task fine. Ive never tried it, i carry an axe when i go backpacking so never needed to. The temper is excellent with esee knives

 They hold a great edge for being a common dare i say cheap 1095 steel. This knife will take a beating and come back for more. I have large hands and personally love the large blocky handle. It gives great control when using

 Not even mentioning esees best warranty in the business, stand behind their blades 100% for the life of the blade. You need not fear using or abusing this blade because if you break it they will replace it. You may be asking why the 4 stars then? For the sheath. It a somewhat large blade and hanging high on your belt it doesnt give alot of play/movement. The clip can be a pain trying to unclip from your belt and it gets in the way of getting your hand in there and pulling the knife out

Do yourself a favor and just try an esee knife.

Knife feels like it is of real quality but the handle has an odor that is absolutely awful. Smells so toxic. Very displeased that the prop 65 warning was not mentioned anywhere on amazon. WARNING contains lead, vanadium, sulfur, nickel and chromium

Knife handle smells toxic. Really toxic fumes coming off

 Just not that hair splitting edge that I like. Nothing a quick trip to the leather can’t fix. Although. For a knife that I plan on doing some chopping with I’m not sure if I want to get it to that point
