If you're simply seeking a decent bread-making appliance that won't blow your budget, check out the Elite Gourmet Maxi-Matic Programmable. This model did a decent job in our baking tests, incorporating the ingredients quite well, and it has 19 different preset functions for everything from basic bread to yogurt. It includes a hook for removing the kneading paddle from the finished bread, a measuring spoon, a measuring cup, and a recipe book. It also has a keep-warm function, as well as a 15-hour delay timer and an audible tone to alert you when it's time to add any mix-ins. 
The crust that this bread maker produced wasn't always the most evenly done. The bottom of the crust was usually much darker than the top of the white, whole wheat, and gluten-free loaves we made for testing. We also found that it occasionally left some of the dry ingredients unmixed. All in all, we still think it's a decent option if you're shopping for a bread machine on a shoestring budget.

The Elite Gourmet Maxi-Matic Programmable is not only one of the least expensive bread machines we tested but also does a solid job making the basics. It makes some of our favorite wheat bread and pretty solid white bread. It's convenient and easy to use and has a slim design that fits on just about any kitchen counter. It has 19 pre-programmed functions and is one of very few we tested that has a yogurt setting.
It didn't perform very well in our yeast-free or gluten-free bread testing. It could have done a better job mixing in our mini chocolate chips, leaving them all clumped together at the bottom of the loaf. Though the Maxi-Matic has the most functions of any model we tested &#40;19!&#41;, it has some of the fewest recipes &mdash; just 18. But if you're making just the basics and have a budget to stick to, we think the Elite Gourmet has a lot to offer and is a solid value buy.

Immediate Concerns with this Bread Machine Right After Opening the Box

 I'm using the recipe book from my old Hamilton Beach machine. Also the nonstick coating started to flake off after only 3 uses while following the care instructions completely. All Elite products that I have ever used have faulty nonstick coating. The same thing happened to my air fryer

 The only thing there were the styrofoam inserts to keep it from bouncing around. I immediately called Amazon and they sent a replacement out right away! The new one arrived yesterday in perfect condition with all packing materials and accessories included as should be. Very pleased as always have been with Amazon customer service!  *I really am not impressed with what they call recipes in this book. It really does not explain well what the 19 functions are for
