 They always felt like something was lightly tugging them out. Aside from the cable, the shape is super comfortable, and the sound is pretty great from what I can tell.

Ya’ll ruined my wallet…. A Mini-Review for each of my (too) many audio purchases:

I’ve bought and/or owned the following headphones: HE400i (2016), HD600, HD560S, X2HR, Harmonicdyne Zeus, HD300 Pro, k361BT, k371, SR50BT, M50xBT, Jabra 85h & 85t, Moondrop Starfields & B2 Dusk, and Dunu SA6. 
Here are my thoughts:

Hifiman 400i: This, alongside the HD600, were my first open back audiophile pairs. Both sounded good but I found the frequency response on the HD600 more smooth and pleasing, and overall liked it slightly more. *however* at this time my only amp was the e10k, so in hindsight I may have liked it more had I owned a better amp back then. 400i has since been sold.


HD600: Great, but the bass extension was really lacking for my preferences. For my tastes, I like the 560S slightly more in virtually every way. I sold this after I got the 560S. 


HD560S: basically my go-to open back headphones. I usually EQ a bass boost below 80hz or so, but aside from that I love everything about them. Good detail, imaging, soundstage… good everything to my ears. 

P.S. pisses me off Senn includes only 1 cable, it’s 9ft long and not 3.5mm, and they add a proprietary locking mechanism just to make it extra hard to get a shorter 3rd party replacement cable 🙄


Harmonicdyne Zeus: my first open back pair which has bass that really impressed me. These are also incredibly comfortable on my head, and with EQ (I use a warmer variation on Oratory’s) they sound really excellent imo. Without EQ they have too much upper bass for my tastes.

Side note, I like that they come with a balanced cable, but the 4.4mm to 3.5mm adapter they include is huge and bulky. And when I want to use it with an amp like the Heresy, I worry about completely snapping the 3.5mm adapter if I were to accidentally put any weight on it. Not ideal.


X2HR: Comfortable, feel sturdy and well built. The treble is a little inconsistent but I found they sounded really great with Oratory’s EQ. That being said, I’d say the Zeus + EQ is an upgrade in every way (except for maybe build durability). My girlfriend now uses these as an upgrade to her Beats when she’s at home. 


HD300 Pro:
Sound fine, nothing super impressive to me but they’re pretty inoffensive. 

Feel very durable and well built, and on my head they are super comfortable. I haven’t used the DT770, but from what I’ve heard I can see these being a good alternative if you want something durable and well built (but warmer).

I primarily used them as a digital-piano headphone, but I plan to sell them since my k371 finally arrived after 2+ months of waiting. 


K371: Very balanced sound, technicality wise they don’t sound super impressive to my ear, but I like the them a bit more than the HD300 Pro nonetheless. Def don’t feel as well built tho, and the isolation is kinda lacking on my head. I’d usually take my B2 Dusk over these (altho of course these are cheaper). 


k361bt: My second least favourite headphones on this entire list. I returned them. I found them to be a pretty big downgrade from the k371, a downgrade from the SR50bt, and even a downgrade from the m50xBT (especially if you EQ the m50x to have less recessed mids). I know DMS likes these which is why I tried em out, but these sounded bad enough that I’m almost wondering if I got a bad unit 🤷‍♂️


ATH-ANC900BT: My first least favourite pair on the list. I found the sound quality was closest to my Jabra Elite 85h, but they were not as well built, not water resistant, had inferior noise canceling, and had loud white noise at all times (even with noise cancelling disabled). 

I returned these and wouldn’t recommend them when the 85h is better in every way imo.


SR50bt: this was an odd one. They sound really good in my opinion, sound is fast and has good punchy bass. More balanced Frequency Response to my ear than the M50x (and more comfortable).

The problem? 2/3 pairs I’ve tried have a high pitched ringing in the right ear. This is likely due to poor quality control on the internal amp or something. My mother couldn’t hear the ringing at all so the pitch must be high enough that older listeners won’t notice it. But for me, it was a dealbreaker. Returned. 


M50xBT: uncomfortable on my head. Pretty unbalanced frequency response. 
But for short listening sessions and/or with some EQ, I think they sound pretty good. I ended up selling mine but I can see some people being really happy with these. I’d still take em over the k361bt. 


Jabra Elite 85h: great all-rounders. Very comfortable, decently balanced sound, good noise cancelling, water resistant. They don’t sound exceptional but I’d recommend them nonetheless.


Elite 85t: probably the worst sounding headphones/earbuds I still own, but I like them a lot anyway. 
Great battery life, comfortable in my ear, good noise cancelling, somewhat balanced sound, water resistant, and super portable. 


Moondrop Starfield: They didn’t really stay in my ears too well, and I was also paranoid of chipping the finish, but for the price I’d say they’re a strong option if they fit your ears better than mine. They don’t sound as good as any of my over-ears imo, but I suppose I shouldn’t expect them to at the price.


Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusk: My favourite closed back pair I’ve tried.
They fit my ear incredibly well, and the sound signature is almost perfect imo. They weren’t as big of a jump over the Starfield as I was hoping, but I like them a lot and don’t regret the purchase. 


Dunu SA6: Strangely enough the cable, despite all the praise it gets, was my biggest issue with these. It’s simply too heavy and I found that extra weight made them constantly uncomfortable. They always felt like something was lightly tugging them out. 

Aside from the cable, the shape is super comfortable, and the sound is pretty great from what I can tell. At least on par with he B2 Dusk, but I need to listen to this pair more to develop my thoughts.



AMPS & DACS:
Heresy, Ifi Hipdac, e10k, BTR5, and Qudelix 5k.

Heresy: sounds great, but not sure any of my headphones really need this much power. I can’t really hear a difference between this and my Hipdac tbh (or at very least, neither sounds *better*). 

Hipdac: got this cause my e10k was draining my laptop battery too quickly. Pretty happy with it, and I like that it has the 4.4mm jack for my Zeus. 

e10k: sounds fine, but if you have any decent laptop/MOBO I’m not sure it’s really worth buying (I don’t regret it since I got it cheap used tho). Currently just using as DAC for my Heresy. 

BTR5: not a big fan tbh. Scratches easily, battery life is behind the 5k, EQ Features are lacking (can’t save multiple presets), app is terrible. Sounds good but I still sold mine.

Qudelix 5k: aside from not having a screen, I like it more than my BTR5 in virtually every way. Great app, slightly better battery life (i think anyway, havent done any formal testing, but I run it in performance mode and still lasts a while), sounds about as good to my ear, and I like that it has a clip built onto it instead of an extra case. 

Sucks that it’s not widely available in Canada but I’d recommend it nonetheless.

This is just a hypothetical question for anyone looking into the summit of IEMs, and these appear to be the two most popular right now. Both are described as having a very similar sound signature, but the Monarch MkII is half the price of the U12T when looking at MSRP, although the U12T can be found for well under MSRP if you're patient.

If anyone has experience with both IEMs (even including the OG Monarch), would you chime in on the differences between the two?

But it is bulky and does not fit me quite that well. As you are coming from L3 (I had them for a very short time), I would say find a used Blessing 2 / Dunu SA6 to make a more substantial upgrade from L3.
